Forums - Gaming Discussion - SNES Classic confirmed, releases on 9/29 WITH STARFOX2!!??

21 games for $80? But why? The SNES has to be the best Nintendo system to date in terms of both first and third party support, easily they could've crammed in 50, and if they sold that for $80, this would be an instant success.

Oh, Nintendo :|
Battletoads, Breath Of Fire, Chrono Trigger, DKC2, Final Fight, Killer Instinct, Harvest Moon, Mortal Kombat (2 or 3), Super Double Dragon could've made this 30 games and much better! Of course there would be more games I'd want, but these games could have realistically been there! It's too bad it's mostly just Nintendo first party and is so expensive at that compared to SEGA's Genesis classic (?) which also has 80 games. Nintendo can only get away with this because they're in a much better business position in the industry compared to SEGA.

Have to say, it's cool to see Donkey Kong Country on this, more proof that Nintendo and MS are pretty tight in terms of getting games owned by MS now onto the Nintendo hardware.

Lots of good ones, but it is missing most of my favourites including Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time, Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, Ogre Battle, Lufia 2, Final Fantasy 4, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire 2, DKC2, DKC3, Turtles in Time, Uncharted Waters, New Horizons, Harvest Moon, and Uniracers.

Obviously it's missing out on tons of good games because the game library are SNES is phenomenol. They loaded it up with Nintendo titles I'm sure so they can make more money - pay out less in licensing fees for the third party games (if I counted correctly there's only about 9 third party games in the list). Woulda been nice to have a few more games though.

Chrono Trigger and FFIV would have made this machine total RPG heaven! But its already an RPG beast with the games it does have. Would have really liked to have Breath of Fire games, Lost Vikings, and a few other that you mentioned. oh well. It's still a fantastic 21 game list.

True, it also has a good spread. The only game on my list I think it would really require would be Turtles in Time and any kind of a simulation game like SimCity, maybe a grand strategy like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but that wasn't a big genre until after 2000, and mostly on PC.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Nice! Wasn't expecting this so soon.

Hopefully preorders open at a decent time, as in...not for five minutes while I'm at work. I have a lot more interest in these titles than the ones on the NES Mini.

Also Star Fox 2...wut.

Well bugger me sideways, I never thought I'd see the day when Starfox 2 would see an official release! I wonder how different this version will be from the leaked alpha that's been floating around the internet for years. Hopefully it comes to Switch Virtual Console eventually, I'd buy that day 1.

On the other hand, only 21 games, no DKC2/3, and no power adaptor in PAL territories are all disappointing missteps.

They could charge this for more and it still going to be sold out everywhere.

Scalpers rejoice.

Yup.

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

Just bought two from U.K as backup until I get a US version. And to the guy a few comments up. Donkey king is still Nintendo.

Nintendo owns DK.

N64 classic just needs Mario 64 and KI Gold for it to be a day1 purchase for me.

Likely not going to happen. Microsoft owns the licenses for Killer Instinct.

21 games? That's just sad. By comparison, the similar Sega Genesis Flashback which is releasing later this year has 85 games.

Regardless, this thing is going to sell out once again, and once again Nintendo is going to do nothing to curb resellers buying them all up and selling them at outrageous prices. I see alot of angry Nintendo fans later this year.

All ready pre-ordered my SNES Classic. And super keen on getting the Sega Genesis (MEga Drive for us Australians) Flashback too!

Buy a REAL Snes.

The original SNES consoles tend to be expensive and do not support newer display inputs like HDMI.
The carts are also stupidly expensive with some games costing several hundred bucks... Plus carts with battery backup saves are also hit and miss... And if you don't know how to replace the battery's you can be left unable to save your games.

21 games and it checks the boxes of nearly every SNES game I wanted. I will desperately try to get one of these.

Needs Chrono Trigger, Lufia 1+2, Killer Instinct (Not likely), Donkey Kong 2 and 3, Breath of Fire and of course... Super Mario All Stars.

Hopefully the consoles get cracked and we can load in more games if Nintendo hasn't provided an option to buy more.

Nice, next N64 Mini pls. :)

And a Gamecube mini I wouldn't argue with either!

Especially as I never owned that console and a few games I want are on it.

This product obviously isn't for you. This is for people who want authentic and branded hardware. Not most likely pirated software with cheap DIY hardware.

It is not the original SNES hardware. It's using off the shelf ARM SoC's and emulating.

Fantastic game choices.
Still zero interest in buying one. Between price, wired controllers, and having to fight tooth and nail against scalpers - easy pass.

Great choices though. Not sure I could actually come up with a better list. No wait, add chrono trigger THEN I couldn't come up with a better list.

Wired controllers were probably due to cost reasons.

Plus, unless the controllers used AA battery's I am glad they went with wired, something like this you want to last the test of time. Having non-replaceable battery's do eventually fail.

If I don't get one of these I'll Stone Cold Stunner somebody.

Pre-order it.

You can mod these, right? I'd do it just to add Chrono Trigger to the list.

To early to tell how the mod scene will go. But the NES classic you could.

I'm really glad we retain the EU design in Europe because man the NA version had an eye sore design.

It's interesting how they used the better European design for North America. Possibly to play into peoples nostalgia?
Glad Australia had the EU design.

Hiku said:

Wait what? Am I reading this right? They're not including an AC adapter neccesary to play the system? o.o

Probably doesn't need it. And saves them money.

Xbox/Playstation/Switch/Blu-Ray Players/TV's etc' all have USB ports. So they might be able to power the device if they can provide enough amps.

I am glad they are going with a USB cable. I can have tidier cable management that way!

BraLoD said:
They certainly made a good list but just 20 games and now for $80?

$119 in Australia. It's not that expensive in my opinion.

Microsoft doesn't own Donkey Kong?
