Tekken 6 sold twice as much in its first week, though.

That was a loooong time ago. Since then Tekken Tournament 2 came out and didn't do very well. Also, other fighting games have been in decline.
Edit: Streer Fighter vs Tekken also didn't do very well.

famitsu counts download cards, so 100k physical copies and 20k download codes. |
That's what I thought I'd heard. But, this chart is only counting physical copies, yes?

yeap, that chart is based on media creates numbers (only counts physical copies).
I won't be suprised if Arms outsells every PS4 exclusive this generation, and probably FFXV on PS4. For whatever reason nothing but Nintendo games appeal to the Japanese. Like seriously, even Europe buys millions of copies of some Nintendo and MS games, but it's like Japan only care about Nintendo, fuck the rest of the industry.
Nintendo land sold over a million in Japan on WiiU, why the fuck can't PS4 rack up that on Persona, Metal Gear Solid, FF, Resident Evil, they're all dead. Arms probably has more brand power than Metal Gear there now. It's insane.
100,000 doesn't sound too impressive, but seeing it beat other well established fighters sure is.
Dance my pretties!

None of those franchises are dead, not even in Japan. The average gamer in Japan plays more than just the mainstream games, that's why many companies keep on making niche games frequently, because there's an user base for such games in Japan.
The market as whole has declined considerably too. Final Fantasy XV hasn't been able to crack 1 million physically yet, and that franchise used to be the fighting it out with Dragon Quest all the time.
I am just surprised that it did that with only 1 million switches out there. I am pretty sure the other games had larger install bases. Arms is a 1st party title done by the Mario Kart team. So expectations should be higher than usual. I am more interested on lifetime sales.
"but the graph mainly isn’t focusing on characters from non-fighting games."
Why isn't Pokken on there? All you do in Pokemon is fight.
Here's hoping it sells 2m+ within its first 12 months on the market and become a generational franchise, like Mario Kart, Splatoon, Smash Bros., etc.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
