Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: the 4K audience is “a bit too limited,” talks fan feedback

Reggie is right about the limited audience, but nearly all tv's sold in stores are 4K now, the shift is happening. In 3 years it'll be what 1080p was in 2013.

Frame rate is more important than resolution. It is nice to know that Super Mario Odyssey is running at 60 fps.

Man it would pain my heart to see that in 720p if I got a brand new 65" 4K OLED.

I dont want to wait on an emulator, would it really hurt Nintendo to make a "tv only" Switch 4K edition for like $399?

4K is pointless. 1080p's good enough, anything over that is just a waste of money and processing power in my opinion.

I have a feeling 4K TV is not the next standard either. Something else with a more advanced feature/component will be.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Nintendo is still struggling to hit 1080p so obviously 4k is a step too far right now. But he's right. 4k is growing rapidly but still niche.

Next gen on the ps5 it will be truly mainstream.

That's right. 4K is mainstream when Sony says it's mainstream.

Not at all.  I was merely using ps5 as a timestamp.  I could have said xbox Two instead.

Ps4 pro,  Scorpio and pc will all aid the transition for 4k to go from niche where it currently is to mainstream.  4k TV sales are and will continue to dramatically increase to the point where it becomes really cheap to buy one.

I don't believe 4k because proper mainstream until next gen hence why I said ps5.

1080p is excellent but 4k is a nice improvement.  After 4k though it's going to become a bit pointless.  We'll eventually have 8k as the mainstream in the distant future and probably 16k someday too.  But you're hitting the point of diminishing returns where the likes of 16k is a pointless waste of processing power because the eyes can't tell the difference.

I don't think people care about graphics

What we meant was that you won't see any of their product piced over $300. BTW the top 3ds version (New 3DS XL) is still cheaper than Vita (the cheaper version), which makes it the cheapest handheld on the market (not to mantion that you can go as low as $90 with the 2DS) and I hate that PS4 price comparison. PS4 is almost 4 years on the market and you compare it with the system which was released 3 months ago. Remind me, how much was the PS4 at lunch?

Yeah, both the PS Vita and the N3DS XL are overpriced for what they are (basically ancient tech), but in this particular instance is not a Sony guy who we have in the front line shamelessly saying "we want our products to be affordable".

And about the PS4-Switch comparison, well, if I have the money to buy a product TODAY, I'm not gonna be thinking about how much said product costed 4 years ago, and how much is gonna cost 4 years down the line, because I have the money today, and I wanna buy it today.  So its price TODAY is the price I care about (Of course thats assuming I'm not expecting any price cut, special offer or promotions).  Not to mention that I always check all the options in the market to try to get the most for my money.

Well now there is a 2ds xl with a 150$ price tag. If you think that is still expensive you must be crazy.

We're already at the point of diminishing returns in my opinion, I literally just came back from JB Hifi where just for reference I checked out the 1080p/4K screens and the difference is negligible.

It's such a waste of processing power when that same power could be used for things that are actually noticeable like better lighting, effects, materials, etc.

I dunno why Ninten would want to go for 4K anyways. They're not usually the ones pushing for the best visuals possible in a video game.

But they used to be, right? Remember Star Fox? Donkey Kong Country? Ocarina of Time?

Though, DKC was made by Rare, so the visuals on that were on them. And SF and OoT... I suppose they were good for their times?

The ps4 pro isn't that much stronger then the ps4 yet it can give the resolution a big bump.  It's not as tasking as you think and will become pretty easy by the time ps5 hits.  It's the new standard and a needed one.  After 4k we might not need to go higher but we shouldn't settle at 1080p.
