Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: the 4K audience is “a bit too limited,” talks fan feedback

Nintendo needs to pursue full high definition first.

There is no such thing as "full" HD. That was a marketing gimmick from day one.

According to that logic 1080p audience is also too limited, while it's not (look at PS4 sales).

Umm, isnt 720p classified as HD, and 1080p classified as Full HD?

If they want their products to be inherently affordable then why add a 3D feature to a handheld console or an expensive controller to a home console?

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing, their latest consoles have had fairly useless features and/or controllers that really drove cost up and they still lost money both on the 3DS and the Wii U at release.

As for his 4k comment; that's spot on for now, 4k is quite limited, especially in gaming. We're still years away from any mainstream device that can run games in true native 4k with any amount of PP effects enabled.

He's right I don't usually agree with him but he's right about 4K just not being a big base right now

Have a 5k PC and still think 1080p/60FPS is the best option

Not just Nintendo, the standard X1 is only dynamically capable of full HD in many games, dipping down to 480p in Titanfall 2, I'm fairly sure there isn't a single Switch game which runs at that low a resolution, heck even lego City recently wasn't 1080p on the X1 but was on the Switch.

But in terms of what Reggie said, people were happy with 720p the entire X360/ps3 gen, this gen most have just gotten a taste of locked 1080p, even the pro and premium models of consoles are going to be reaching 4k with massive comprimises, the Switch right now makes perfect use of its 720p panel and the 1080p TV's which are found in most homes around the world.

Also.... puppet Iwata in the Op :'(

4K is to this gen what 1080p was last gen. So Nintendo should make the jump to 1080p next gen!

Quite the understatement

Yes. They've all had a Capcom like phrase for marketing. Now we're at "Ultra HD" (4K). Seems we've skipped "Super" and we're sticking to a single word. Maybe will be "Mega" or "Super" next for 8k or 16k.
