Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: the 4K audience is “a bit too limited,” talks fan feedback

Yeah I feel like Sony and especially Microsoft are jumping on the 4k bandwagon a bit early. Yeah 4k tvs are out there but it reminds me of plasma TV's in the early 2000s

Until cable is in 4K, the adoption rate is going to remain slow. But like with HDTV's, when the rate does pick up, Sony and Microsoft are right there and not playing catch up.

Everything Reggie said is correct. Wii was a console that was right place; right time. I feel Switch is in the same position. It will be evolved  over quickly but right now, it is in the right position.

If they want their products to be inherently affordable then why add a 3D feature to a handheld console or an expensive controller to a home console?

Does anyone really think Switch, at 299, is too much money?

I wasn't talking about the Switch but the price seems fine objectively speaking.  Of course, being a hybrid, some people will think it's too much depending on what they want out of it.  Personally, I'd only use it as a home console, so I wouldn't pay $300 for it, especially since it doesn't come with the best controller.

Nintendo is still struggling to hit 1080p so obviously 4k is a step too far right now. But he's right. 4k is growing rapidly but still niche.

Next gen on the ps5 it will be truly mainstream.

He is right about the 4K thing, but it irks me to no end every time they use the phrase "we want our products to be affordable".  Like, really?? the New 3DS XL is still selling for $200 and the Wii U for $300!

And the Switch is more expensive than the PS4 (WITH A GAME INCLUDED!).

Now, I can accept the "we offer games that can only be played here" and "we offer new ways to play" but "affordable" is a word that they should be using.

Apparently the 1080p audience is also a bit too limited.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Aim for 1080 60, more the 60 part. MK8D and Arms are good starts.

Maybe those things are what taught them to aim for inherent affordability?

I'm only recently realizing how good Reggie is with PR. He's very good with words. They don't feel deceptive either.

Feelings can be deceptive.

I'm mostly a PC gamer and I don't really care about 4k right now.

I think 1440p with the highest framerate possible is ideal in most situations.

That said, Zelda BOTW is still one of the best experiences I've ever had at 720p 20fps

When I first saw the $299 price tag, I thought it was $50 too much but once I got a Switch, I felt it was a good price. The size of the little unit is impressive and the box comes with two controllers that can be combined to form one right out of the box.

On a related note, the Switch seems to be selling decently at a $400 scalper price on Amazon.

Others would think they're getting a console and a handheld for the price of a new console. It's like buying two for the price of one.

That's the whole point of the Switch: a console at home and a handheld for when on-the-go. It's in the marketing and it's in the name.

Not a fan of the doggie controller eh?

MK8D and Arms seem to be able to pull off 1080p fine.
