Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sonic Forces running at 30 FPS on Switch as of now

Sonic Forces was finally playable at E3 2017 this week. Multiple versions of the game were playable, including Switch.

Sonic Forces seems to hold up pretty well on Nintendo’s console. However, SEGA did make one technical compromise. While other versions will be 60 frames per second, it’ll drop to 30 on Switch.

It’s possible that things may change before the final game ships. Still, a raise to 60 FPS it

Dammit Sega, aim for 60.

Kinda sucks, though this was the 3D Sonic standard for...a long time. Still, after Lost World I would hope 60fps would be their universal target.

Well I mean the game is coming out holidays so they do still have more time to work on it.

The Switch has held this game back to gen 7 graphics tbh.

A game this fast must be a pain in the ass (eyes) to play at 30fps. Good for Nintendo to sacrifice so much power for HD-rumble which nobody uses already.

Most likely CPU, because if it was GPU they would just lower resolution to 900p or 720p even.

Wouldn't assume that since the GPU is at least 4x weaker compared to base PS4 ... (it gets worse with console specific optimizations)

Downgrading the resolution by a factor of 2x just isn't enough ...

That's not how it works. The power of the Switch is due to the hybrid nature of it. Criticizing an irrelevant feature is useless.

OT: There's still a lot of time left for polish and stabilization. While it would be sad to see the game not be raised to 60 fps, a rock solid 30 fps would still be okay. Any issues at 30 fps however won't be acceptable

I'm sure the 10 people who are interested in this are disappointed.

This game will probably do pretty well on Switch actually; Sonic games have historically had strong sales on Nintendo platforms; Sonic Colours, Secret Rings, Unleashed, All Stars Racing, Adventure 2 Battle, Mega Collection, Heroes, and Adventure DX all sold over a million.
