Hold on! I'm real happy u like Ratchet and Clank, and imma let u finish, but the original Jak and Daxter is the best non-Mario platformer of all time! Of all time!

Fixed that for you as well. (As long as we say that R&C is a shooter platformer hybrid, so it isn't in the same category)

It developer of quality has to bring back the Jak and Daxter franchise. It is more of a traditional platformer then Ratchet & Clank as much as I love Ratchet & Clank.

Hence why I could agree that Jak and Daxter is the best platformer of all time, even though Ratchet & Clank has some games that are better.

People tend to forget that first party Ninty games tend to do well on ninty consoles. Arms isn't doing well because of its genre but because of it being a Ninty Ip and Ninty fans knowing what to expect (the games they've bought haven't disappointed them so they expect this title to do well too).

Mario Od. will sell well no doubt. It will not affect platformers one bit. Even if it does, the copies or games with similar elements will fail miserably unless made and promoted by Ninty.

I don't think it ever stopped, although I don't think it'll cause a surge in them either. Just things going as usual.

I doubt it. This clearly looks like the worst 3d Mario game since Sunshine. Maybe it surprised but I think we're looking at a thud.

Your opinion and all, but I disagree. This game looks leagues ahead of Sunshine, it has way more level variety and the capture mechanic looks fun. Also, the worst 3D Mario is easily 3D Land imo. It was bland, forgettable and it didn't help that it was super short and easy. 3D World was a big improvement over that game.

Agree that Nintendo is in it's own vaccum and rarely sets industry wide trends anymore. They are like if Pink Floyd released a new concept album in 2017, it's going to sell gangbusters regardless, but if some low key prog rock band released similar material it might sell 100,000 copies if they're lucky. It's brand power, and Mario is a massive brand.

I can sort of agree with that. R&C has always seemed to me like what contra or megaman could've been like if they'd successfully made the transition to 3D. (But Jak & Daxter is still better)

Perhaps, Nintendo is generally the most influential software developer in existence. But I don't think Odyssey's impact will be any more significant than Mario Galaxy. It's a somewhat similar level of hype, maybe a little lower. It also doesn't do as much in the way of new things The issue with games like Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Galaxy/Odyssey being influential is that there's almost no other developers that have the resources to create similar sorts of experiences. The reason Wii Sports was so influential in kicking off the motion gaming genre was because the developers had the resources to make their Kinect Sports, Zumba Fitness, and Just Dances. All the same, where Mario Galaxy was most influential was in interface and gameplay mechanics. Little doubt Zelda and Mario Odyssey will have a similar impact on the industry as a whole; but, I doubt we'll see full scale clones of either game.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Guess we'll never know, though. I still believe that had Tearaway (my favourite game from this/last generation) been a Ninty first party game, it would have done incredibly well. Over 1m at least. Brand helps, but I think it's more that Ninty fans know what to expect from Ninty first party games (so not just Mario).

But overall, I agree with you to an extent.

Because it needs to be repeated as many times as it takes for people to get it. We're already in a resurgence of 3D platformers...
