ffxiv shouldnt come to switch, will just hold the game back

I don't think a Switch version would affect the others much. It should be capable of running 4.0 with some graphical compromises, and that's the first "no low spec hardware" expansion. Their biggest hurdle would be the CPU, but there are ways of working around that within the Switch version itself. The general game isn't too CPU intensive, it's just when hundreds of players are in 1 place that the CPU starts crying :p

Playerbase would riot if the Switch version got introduced. No chance as people are already calling for baseline PS4 support to be dropped in the next expansion.

Also, the notion that Sony is going out of its way to block FF14 going to other platforms is entirely absurd. Sony doesn't have any say in the development decisions of FF14.

Anyone demanding that lacks even a basic understanding of what they're actually asking for :p

Outside of effectively remaking the game (which would run counter to the lessons they learnt from 1.0), FF14's technical base has been set. That's why the PC version's shift from DX9 to DX11 only got us a few extra graphical options, and 4.0 dropping support for an entire generation only resulted in minimal technical changes for the PS4 and PC. All dragging the minimum specs to above the PS4 will accomplish is wiping out the majority of the player base (all PS4 players, and a good chunk of PC players).

Regardless, i'm not saying whether they will or should support the Switch, just that i don't believe it'd effect the game much. FF14's biggest design limitation right now is its server structure, not specs.

Reminds me of when Square said FFXV and KH3 would be ported to anything that could do DX11 features and tho Wii U used GX2 it was capable of DX11 equiv features and now Switch esp is capable of it

The developers is urging players to upgrade from a 32bit CPU, to a 64bit CPU. I'm not certain what that will improve but if they come out with a Switch version I will riot.

I expect they just want to stop having to support the DX9 version. 90%+ of steam users now have a 64bit OS, so the DX9 version is becoming a progressively larger waste of resources. A Switch version would be 64bit regardless of that though.

Why would you riot over something that's unlikely to effect your experience? FF14 is a game i care about a lot, and I've been pretty vocal about my personal disdain for the Switch's hardware. If i thought there was a reason to worry about a Switch version of FF14, i'd be bitching all over this thread :p

It will effect my experience. Final Fantasy XIV is patched regularly, and Square Enix needs those patches to go live on every platform at the same time. Microsoft and Nintendo both have different weird policies, and I don't want the dev team to devote resources that would potentially cause delays.

Plus, I don't see FFXIV on the go being a thing. There is just to many variables to worry about. wifi connection, storage space, and don't even try to play without a keyboard.. Besides, I think Switch will have frame rate issues, and object pop-in/outs. Better to just focus on more content and features.

Ok, so that's basically his way of saying that it will never happen, since the party that is adamantly against cross-play aren't MC or Ninty, but Sony.

It's really unreasonbale to demand from them to make Sony change their minds imo.

Sony had to agree to cross-play to get a port during the PS3 days and onto the PS4. The reason why MS to this day doesn't have the FFXIV ARR on the 360 or xbox one is because ms didn't agree with crossplay. Nice spin btw.

Well, I'm a fairly hardcore player so obviously I get exposed a lot to people who want the end game content to be far larger in scale.

I don't think they should drop PS4 by next expansion, but it will and should be dropped at 6.0.

As for the "technical base" argument, I think that's not correct. We've already seen Blizzard redo so much of the earlier parts of the game to make it all look so much better.

That's a really odd argument. Yes, more versions require more resources, but they also generate more resources. That's the entire point :p

As i said in the comment you originally replied to, i'm not saying whether SE will or should support a Switch version. I do, however, see no technical reason why it'd hold back the PS4 or PC version. It would definitely require graphical compromises on the Switch, and there's a debate to be had about how they should handle certain aspects of the Switch's different circumstances, but none of that is inherently negative for other platforms. It could potentially be a good thing if it leads to continued growth for the game. In the absence of any inherent negative, i'll personally wait and see if anything bad actually happens before i get angry.
