Doesn't Rocket League have PC/PS4 cross-play?

PS4/PC cross-play is no problem. SFV has it as well and there will be more.

It's PS4/XB1 crossplay that's the issue.

Well, you're in luck However...I think most Switch owners want FFXV or VII Remake, VII Remake should be the most feasible being run on Unreal and all. I hear XIV is good though, I'd give it a try on Switch.

Sony calls it #4theplayers, I like how some really believe Sony cares about the players and not only with which tactic they can make the most money (like everyone else as well, obviously)

I can see both of them going for it like they did with Minecraft, but I can't see Sony joining in, what with "business" and all that jazz.

Still it'll be good news for MS and Nintendo if they both manage to go for it.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

And what does that have to do with this thread in which Sony was the first ones to be open to cross play with FF14?

Because I live in the present and not past, maybe.

That shows even more that my point is true. Now Sony believes it is bad for them financially, in the past they thought it is good for them. It's not about the players, it's about the money.

And do you know what the "present" thread is about? It is about FF14 and cross play. Which Sony is doing.

So are you sure you are in the present? because This has nothing to do with Minecraft.

I wasn't here to trigger someone but I get the feeling that I still did it.

Sry for that.

I've been playing Trials Fusion for the past Four years now and that Ubisoft Title allows creations to be shared cross-platform.

PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

It's not a problem. Of course Ubisoft hasn't been bought out by Microsoft so far with it also, I suppose.

Wouldn't that issue go with Sony?

Pocky Lover Boy!

This is so weird... they said they were considering it for Switch when it was called NX, how the hell are they still "talking about it"? Isn't it a bit too late? What the fuck Square is thinking? At this point this game will come to other platforms when PS5 is around the corner... wtf.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

you say then.. but they are STILL blocking it. Otherwise it would be on xbox one. Do you think Square enix only offered them FF14 once? At any point in time Microsoft could have opened up thier servers for cross play and BOOM FF14 on xbox one.

What makes you think MS is still blocking it? MS is open to crossplay with Nintendo now, why wouldn't they be open to crossplay with Sony? MS has literally nothing to lose and everything to gain by allowing crossplay with Sony in this case, they get a JRPG to keep the Japanese port beggars like myself off their backs (Phil and other Xbox execs are plagued by dozens of tweets a week asking for Japanese games on Xbox One). On the other hand, Sony has nothing to lose by blocking crossplay on FF14, they know Square won't allow it on XB1/Switch without crossplay, so all they have to do is block crossplay and that's a free exclusive for them. Ultimately Square can't force crossplay on Sony, the game is already on PS4 afterall, Square isn't going to threaten to cancel FFXIV support just to force Sony into allowing crossplay, they're making too much money from it.

Regardless of rather it's Sony or MS blocking it, Square has two choices here as I see it, don't release it on XB1/Switch and lose out on millions of potential sales and a steady stream of subscription fee money, or allow XB1/Switch to have crossplay with each other and allow PS4/PC to continue to be crossplay with each other. Hopefully they will choose the latter if MS/Sony won't play ball on crossplay with each other, the combined XB1/Switch playerbase would be plenty I'm sure.

They definitely do. Actively blocking SE's ability to do what they want with their own game (and one which is currently very important to SE's profitability) would put a significant strain on their relationship, and all Sony would get in exchange is console exclusivity over an MMO they've already benefited from for 4~ years, and whose benefits would likley continue to be predominantly theirs even with cross-play. Sony benefit a lot from the strength of their relationship with SE, so i can't see them jeopardizing that over FF14. The alternative would be they're throwing money at SE for it, but then SE wouldn't be talking to MS and Nintendo at all.

It is possible Sony are blocking it, but between the above and Yoshida's continued focus on MS and Nintendo's go ahead rather than Sony's, i would find it surprising. I think the situation is probably more complex than it appears.

-snip-

Phil suggesting a year ago that they were already open to FFIV crossplay at that time. If MS was open to the idea a year ago, then that suggests that Sony are indeed the ones blocking it now.

It's worth noting that there's a difference between MS wanting it, and SE and MS being able to agree to the terms necessary to accomplish it. In the absence of other variables, of course MS want it. It's one of the most popular MMOs to come out in years. It does add weight to the idea Sony are blocking it, but only to a limited extent.
