Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you consider Xbox One a Failure?

A significant setback.

If it makes money it can't be a failure. Even if it only sold 1 million. It doesn't matter how much the 360 sold. Success is not definded as selling more than your last product. It's about breaking even and establishing a healthy ecosystem, which the X1 clearly did. This all or nothing mentality is stupid and should stop.

Even the Wii U made money after all. It's considered a failure because it didn't make as much money as the Wii. Which is stupid to expect in the first place. It would probably still be considered a failure if it sold, let's say, 50 million.

It's a success and still has around 3 or 4 more years left with support so I can see it selling 60 something million. A drop from the 360 but definitely not a failure like the Wii U, Vita and dre.am

you think it will sell more, or at least as much, in it's second 4-year period compared to it's first?

It will sell less. XBO should be around 35-36m by  the end of the year and by 2021 around 60m so thats around 24-25m more units after 2017.

There's pretty much nothing that would convince me to buy XB1. I mainly game on PC, bought PS4 for those sweet exclusives and recently purchased Switch for (again) exclusives and portability. By looking at current trends I believe I'm not the only one who thinks that way. I'd rather see MS, merging windows and x-box brands into free, mint windows XB edition, focused purely on gaming and performance. They could easily succeed in the area where Valve failed spectacularly.

No, it's not a failure. It's just... not a major success like the PS4 currently is. What matters is that it does well and is profitable.

No, its not a failure. The Xbox One is selling very well by last gen standards. Problem is, when Sony sells well and hits their real potential numbers, the Xbox is not even in in their league. The only saving grace for the Xbox One since quite a few of their AAA's supposedly did not turn profit, is that they are bathing in multiplatform games.

Coming from the Xbox360, yes, absolute failure. More so compared to how the PS4 is doing.
Overall, I'd say more a disappointment than a failure.

well, people said PS3 was a failure despite selling 85m, because it came after PS2 which sold close to double that. So if you were one of those people, you would have to say Xbox One is a failure.

If you take each generation on it's own merits, Xbox One is neither a success or a failure. It's just kind of meh, average

I'm not one of those people. The PS3 did badly at first, but bounced back and eventually passed the 360. But, it seems a lot of people replying do consider Xbone a failure. This makes me wonder what the threshold for being a "successful" console is. Is it just based on the competition's sales?

I think it might be the legacy it will leave behind. Im pretty sure theres not a lot of x1 owners thinking, "boy Im exited to see what goodies the next xbox will bring". Most are seing the competition deliver more and they have no reason to stay in the ecosystem. So its a faliure cuz next gen a lot of people will be jumping ships, if it even gets another gen.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Yes, it is a failure and Microsoft is not doing anything to change it. As far as exclusives goes old or new IP?. In terms of sales it selling almost twice as less as the PS4.
