Gen 9 will happen. PS4 and XBO are still the baseline for exclusive titles being developed for well into 2019 if not even 2020.
We may see even one more higher tier version of the PS4 and XBO before PS5/XB4, and we will absolutely see a Switch revision or two in that time as well.
A baseline for games is an absolute necessity. Developers have to have a target for games as technology is always growing. Low cost devices with mass adoption are the best thing they can build to. A game built exclusivily for the best CPU and GPU available on the market, will never make its money back, because it will be years, and years before the cost comes down and enough people even have a device capable of running it.
PS5 and XB4 will be a significant power increase over PS4 and XBO. It is not going to be the measly Ryzen + Vega @ 12TFLOP & 16GB GDDR6 people seem to be so hot on. PS5/XB4 will be Ryzen+ 7nm or 7nm+ that was leaked in AMD docs a few weeks ago. They will have Navi and beyond based GPU tech @ 20+ TFLOPS. They will support a minimum of 32GB of GDDR6 or HBM RAM, and they will have some form of SSD storage.
PS5 and XB4 will set a new baseline that once again open up new game design, new graphical techniques, better AI, more precise controls, better networking, and much more. The jump to 32GB of RAM will allow them to draw two 4K images for VR, the more capable CPU will allow them to reach higher frame rates, and the SSD will allow load times to remain constant or even shrink.
As far as Switch is concerned. It is either a 9th gen console, a 6th gen handheld, or a ~3rd/1st gen Hybrid depending on who you are. As far as the games go, it is pretty close to a PS3/360 with a few new tricks up its sleeve. I mean this in no way as something bad. I absolutely love the Switch, the time I have spent with it has been a blast, and I can not wait to get my own once Mario Odyssey is here. This is just what I came away with after a few days with the unit, and about a dozen games so far.
I believe the industry is in the best place it has ever been with all three platform holders doing solid in the console business, and Windows, Mac, and Linux getting great support on the PC side. You get a choice no matter what ecosystem or type of device you want to play on. Flexability within the 5 - 8 year console cycle is something that is long over due, and something that allow the next generation to really blow us away.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
