I agree. The last guardian, dreams, God of war, driveclub, ratchet & clank, horizon zero dawn, GT sport, they are all too much like the last of us.

God of War 4 looks like it's inspired by The Last of Us....

How? Literally nothing is the same between them. The only coherent thing I see between Sony first party IP is high budget graphics. Everything else is different among pretty much all them except TLOU and Days Gone.

edit - they all share campaign modes too but that's always been an industry norm so...?

Me neither, I'd rather rely on single player games focused on gameplay than on cheesy cinematic experiences...

At this rate, PS5 might be the first PS console I skip, unfortunately. I'm already preparing for this by building a powerful PC later this year and buying a Switch as a complement.

Hopefully this changes eventually.

This i agree with i only play multiplayer with my kids and bro so I am mostly a single player gamer for gameplay reasons..95% the time when I play a game thats praised for its narrative I find the narrative to be stupid

Mixed bag really, while its not a traditional hack and slash now they also got rid of qtes and dumped them all into Spiderman, so thats a bonus :^)

That poll.... who does?

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Joel seems to be to Ellie what Kratos seems to be to the kid... On the surface anyways...

I prefer video games that are just flat out video games.

Games not embarrassed to be a video game and not trying to be a film. David Cage is a poor writer and his "games" would be extremely poorly reviewed as a movie like The Room bad. I have played some Uncharted and don't like them. It's like it's afraid to be a video game and tries to be more but ironically is more video gamey than it wants to be with the subpar shooting sections half assed puzzles and glowing things to climb.(only played the Vita game and Uncharted 3). They feel the same in opening gotta escape thing and thing falls apart. I found it boring when it was overdone in 3. Anyway it's trying to be so "cinematic" but feels fare more video gamey than anything and not fun either. I am not a big fan of Sony's IPs in the last decade aside from a few like Gravity Rush,Folklore and rain. HUGE fan of PS4 tho just because of all the 3rd party stuff and limited run stuff.

Not totally opposed to a game having a stong narrative like Yakuza 0 or Nier Automata but there is a real balance of gameplay, there is a lot of gameplay there and story told through gameplay as well. Not broken up like many games of today. Doesn't feel like it was thrown in secondly. I didn't like The last of Us either. The human AI is some of the worst I have ever seen in a game. It was N64 levels of bad with them not noticing me crouched right in front of them and they just ran at me with a melee weapon when I had a gun. Also the TPS segements felt average. I rather play Binary Domain as it had a interesting story and a really fun TPS. I quit TLOU as it wasn't fun to play. Cage never felt like games to me any more than Dragon's Lair did but at least with Dragon's Lair it had nice looking animation.

How I feel. I know it's not a popular one but can't help how I feel.

I have no clue what the narrative is in Nex Machina, so No to the poll. As for more story driven single player games, I have no problem with those. Yet I'll have to play the new GoW first before I can make up my mind whether I like the new direction. No more qte is progress. At least the combat is not narrative driven aka scripted anymore!

Scripted combat? Where did that come from. God of War's combat wasn't scripted at all, only the finishers, much like Mortal Kombat's fatalities. And like those, it was optional in all cases except for boss battles.

That's what I meant. qte in boss battles has never been fun.

I take this that they want their games to be better rounded. Why shouldn't games have good storytelling as well as gameplay? While great, God of War was always a dudebro series you could play with your brain off. The new game still has the masculinity but this time Kratos has some nuance and character depth, too. All Sony games shouldn't be cutscene heavy close camera third person games, but putting as much effort into your narrative as your gameplay is only a benefit to me.

Judging by what has been said about GOW in interviews, it seems like it'll be more in depth than ever.
Kratos and his Son will both have their own skill trees, there will be a merchant you can purchase weapons from and upgrade them as well. There will be more exploration with more open areas. Cory said he wants to give the player more freedom in how they want to play the game as opposed to all the previous GOW games where you just go down one path killing everything in your path till you get to the next cutscene.

I'm sorry TC but you're looking like a troll and nothing more making a mountain out of a molehill. You're taking one quote from one guy who has no decision making power when it comes to these studios and predicting the future of all Sony studios even though these same studios swear up and down that Sony let's them do whatever they want. Heck Shannon (Head of Santa Monica) said that exact thing during their E3 coliseum event.

Even without knowing the context of each relationship I feel like you're being incredibly disingenuous. The themes are completely different, the gameplay itself is completely different, ones a stealth/survival game while the other is a hack and slash, and the connection between each pair is different as well - father/son and guardian/savior.
