Forums - General Discussion - Should we seriously consider buying VGC?

If I get into the buying team, you guys will see much more ads. I want the ad revenue.

You win the thread! You are a true capitalist. I can't stop laughing.

It would be more ideal to profit off a sustainable business model than to just break even, would it not? Rhetorical question, of course.

Who should that profit be paid out to? What I meant by break even is that all surplus money should be reinvested in the site to further improve quality

To the people who put money into the website of course. A business is expected to be sustainable while paying out the people who invest in your/their business. It would be a neat idea to have a collection of video game enthusiasts investing their time, money and energy into a single website for the sake of community growth as well as growth of capital.

I got booted to an ad that I couldn't return from (on mobile) while trying to read this thread so, yeah, I'd conside buying in if it meant more controlled ads/no pop-ups and more consistent sales updates.

There's always the supporter program. It disables ads completely: http://www.vgchartz.com/supporters.php

Why would I give money in exchange for the removal of terribly impemented ads, all it would do is incentivize the admins to throw even more ads on the site to encourage others to follow suit.

Before long this site will end up a cesspool of intrusive ads like ps3hax

I don't use adblock because if we all did the site would shut down.

If VGChartz had some sort other way of raising money like a patreon, I think a lot of us would contribute something.

But I'm not gonna tolerate the bullshit ads. No other website I visit is this bad.

If I were to support would I get a percentage of the ownership of the website ? I think VGC has great potential to grow as a website if handled properly so I would be interested in helping out

It would be possible to pay out a dividend to the owners of the company, but I'm not sure what legal stuff you'd need to solve, if any. You'd also have to pay a lot more than 10 or 20 bucks for any oriject to be worth it as an investment (okay, sure, if you bought bitcoin for $10 8 years ago, you'd be at least a multimillionaire, but I really don't think VGC will follow the same trajectory....

But hey, these are things that would need to be discussed before any action like this is performed :)

Nah. That's why I've been in the process of designing a website that won't crash constantly, have horrid ads, and be... light black and lime green with tints of orange... seriously our color-scheme is wtf worthy XD of course earliest itd be done is like November, but we'll see if my plans even materialize

And yet. Solves nothing for the root cause.

Blocking the adverts is free and is accessible to everyone.

I would be more than happy to be a supporter. But not if the rest of the community continues suffers at the hands of an abusive advertising regime.

It's sadly as far as I can go regarding the ads. Like stated in this thread, the site belongs to Brett and while I'm allowed to change the code for site functionalities, the ads remain his domain. I certainly would love it if he would at least change provider to have "respectable" ads instead of grossely intrusive ones.

especially the pornographic ones, those are the most intrusive, js
