Forums - General Discussion - Should we seriously consider buying VGC?

The reason why the ads are so aggressive is because its targeted at users who just come to see the sales numbers, which is more than forum users here (just my speculation).

I really dont understand the constant need to make a thread about this, just use an adblocker or make a donation, it was said so many times before.

There's always a new person that joins. So the bad ad threads will continue.

I don't use adblock because if we all did the site would shut down.

Why buy it when you can make your own, all you really need to do is pull numbers out of your backside and slap as many ads as you can on the page, and forget mobile browsers exist, then poof, you got your own vgc.

Bonus points if you abandon it almost entirely and only give it attention when your AdSense payments are lower than usual.

Why not run a patreon?. I know there is that member thing, but it's really not working out too well and the Patreon gig would probably fare better.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

How much would it cost to actually buy this site though?

I got booted to an ad that I couldn't return from (on mobile) while trying to read this thread so, yeah, I'd conside buying in if it meant more controlled ads/no pop-ups and more consistent sales updates.

There's always the supporter program. It disables ads completely: http://www.vgchartz.com/supporters.php

It would be hard to run a patreon with the goal of buying the site, if that's what you mean. But the overall idea of VGC being funded by Patreon, I certainly don't mind. But still, at the moment it's being owned and run by ioi, and he runs the site for profit, and that isn't really compatible with Patreon.

The games database needs some work as does the chart options. I remember when we could see point by point sales comparisons on the front page with customizable parameters. That was nice. I do think some things desperately need an overhaul.

I meant in terms of supporting it rather than buying it, buying means we'd have a whole lot of mess to deal with.

Imagine if we all pitched in to buy out VGC, who would be in charge, how would you go about splitting site ownership among many on here that were to pitch in to the buyout?. It honestly sounds like a complciated mess that could turn ugly within a matter of weeks/months if you ask me. Patreon allows to pitch in for site funding, which in turn could go towards site improvements or hiring a person to redesign the site (since we perma'd the last site designer).
