Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo apologizes for Switch shortages in Japan, increasing shipments next month

Switch shortages have been an ongoing battle for Nintendo since the system launched on March 3. On its Japanese website, Nintendo provided an update on the situation.

Nintendo did acknowledge that Switch has been in short supply since release. The company apologized for any trouble caused for both consumers and distributors.

Nintendo says that it continues to ship more Switch units each week. Additionally, in July and August, shipments will increase. The new Splatoon 2 bundle is included in that. Production will further increase starting in the fall.

If they do not have enough Switches when Splatoon 2 comes out there will be blood on the streets. So production increases should definitely be in the cards.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Nintendo really underestimated the Switch, shortages have been worse than the Wii era.

Finally some good news on this front.Hopefully this means it wont be as hard to find one, and the vaseline sales for Japan will be at least 40k going foward

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Good news! I honestly expected lame supply to continue even during Splatoon launch since they didn't say a thing about improving the situation. Glad to hear things will be better starting next month.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

If they doesn't fix this by July the Japanese goverment will sue Nintendo for creating a massive catasthrope in the country.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

It's all a ruse. Nintendo, stop lying to us.

They really must have underestimated the switch to still have shortage issues. Can't really blame them for being cautious. Hopefully they can meet the demand soon.

Well what happened was with the Wii, they were able to quickly (as in, within less than 3 months) renegotiate component orders and drastically increase volume.  Nintendo probably has tried to do the same this time, but the unexpected NAND and vibration motor shortages have made it far harder.
