Forums - Gaming Discussion - Valkyria revolution looks very disappointing...

The lack of hype is real.

Gameplay wise.

Thanks for the very specific and insightful answer

Its cheap for a reason and Japanese userreviews are absolutely scathing.

THe term "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind when this game gets mentioned. They've completely messed with a gameplay formula that everybody who played this game loved, it made it a massive fan favourite, and they changed it. I don't know what it is with Japanese developers but they really seem to NOT listen to fans. They've possibly destroyed a franchise that had massive potential to do well.

But Valkyria Chronicles was broken.

You have insulted my honor. Pistols at noon, sir.

No one asked for this game. If they had made a proper current gen sequel to Valkyria Chronicles 1 (not counting the psp games) for PS4/PC, with the same art style, it would be another Japanese success story like Nioh and Nier Automata. It is the type of game that would do amazingly well this gen thru word of mouth.

Such a missed opportunity.

Exactly, the entire franchise is a missed opportunity.  The first one did great on the PS3 worldwide, but for some reason they decided to just focus on the Japanese market by moving it to the psp instead of trying to grow the franchise, they settled for niche.  Makes me mad, makes me think of what sega did with shining force too.  Stopped making games that people wanted and just started making weird ARPG's that nobody wanted...

I don't know if I would say it was broken.  It certainly had some battles where the difficulty ramped up in a frustrating way, but I wouldn't say broken.  However, again, it is like sega doesn't understand how improve games.  When they sit down to make a new game, it's like they make changes to the gameplay because that is what is expected of them, not because it will be better.  They don't understand how to refine on each iteration... they could have looked at a more consistent difficulty ramp up or other things to improve the solid base they had with the first game, but nope, they just started hacking at the base and now you can hear them yelling timber with revolution.

If it is not a strategy game, I will not buy it.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

The first one is one of my favorite games of all time yet I have no interest at all in Revolution.

I would love to get some indepth details why this game is bad without bringing Chronicles into it, reason why I'm asking is because it's going to be one of the games I'm going to buy by the end of next week.
