If all they have is a logo (or less),... .I doubt their very far into production.
I dont think you should expect anything before 2019.

Nintendo has been known to announce a game and release it just a few months later.  Donkey Kong Country Returns for instance.   Announced at E3, launched that November, development actually began 2 years before announcing it.

The fact all they showed was a logo should not be taken as a measure for how far into development they are.  What they show is more of a marketing factor.  Do they want the focus on 2017 and early 2018 games or games they could focus on at E3 2018?   The logo keeps the crowd interesting and excited without taking focus away from near release titles.

Nintendo showed gameplay of Kirby and Yoshi, both 2018 titles, but showed nothing of Pokemon or Metroid. And we're supposed to believe they are 2018 titles too?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Those almost certainly early 2018...as in pre-E3 2018 titles.  Can't show them off at E3 next year if they've already released.

To add they would have seen what Microsoft and Sony showed off and could have decided not to bother showing a full blow trailer last minute. A E3 2018 trailer and gameplay on the show floor for a late 2018 holidays release would be perfect hype and momentum just before launching the game.

Nice theory, but given that we already knew how long would the Spotlight be, 25 minutes, before the conferences of both Sony and Microsoft, I don't see how that is possible.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I don't know how much stock we can put into his words but it's encouraging that they're aiming for 2018 at least.

Signature goes here!

I think they'll be aiming for late 2018 for both titles, with Pokemon more likely than Metroid Prime 4. I expect Nintendo won't commit to any kind of release date for either title until next E3.

I would have found it hard to believe, especially Pokemon. As great a developer Game Freak is, this is practically their first actual HD project outside of Tempo the Badass Elephant. And it'll defintely be on a bigger scale than that of Tempo.

Doesn't mean much considering the history of TBAs

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U, coming in 2015! :P

Personally, what they're doing with Mario Odyssey is best - but I would go a step further by by waiting till October to release gameplay footage and other secrets. We are in a hightened state of "OMG" the week after the Odyssey reveal, how are audiences going to get back to that state of mind?

If Metroid isn't even in showable form right now how can it be ready for next year? I don't buy it.

We don't know if it was in showable form or not.  We only know they were focusing on 2017 and early 2018 titles.  A big trailer for a holiday 2018 title would not have made sense.  This is all about marketing.

Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing.

So no logo or trailer and yet they are holiday 2018 and Pokemon and MP4 are not?

The recent sales of Awakening and Fates suggests it can be after all FE is now classed as a major IP so why not go further and push it as a holiday title like they did with Animal Crossing on the Wii.

AC was already huge before they put it on Wii.  The DS game sold over 12 million units.  The 2 3DS FE games sold ~2 million.

Animal Crossing, Mario Maker 2, 5mash, 2D Zelda, whatever the hell Retro is doing. There are many options.

Options that largely are speculated.  My point is that we know about Pokemon and MP4.  That gives them crediblity for holiday 2018.  Outside of AC, those games you listed are completely rumored or just guessed at.  How can anyone claim those games AC aside, are a more likely holiday 2018 title than Pokemon and MP4?

2018 is 2018. If they can show gameplay of Yoshi then they can show gameplay of Metroid too. I would be pleasantly surprised if i'm wrong but I don't think its ready to show.

Last I remember Nintendo announcing games like this (Smash4, Zelda BotW, SM3DW, MK8), only 3D Mario released the following year, so I'm skeptical on Metroid. However Pokemon is a different beast, with Sun/Moon only having logo's for their announcement but still releasing in the same year, so I think a 2018 release is possible. Of course I'll excuse both not making 2018 as long as we get Animal Crossing!

Wait, so you'd want them to wait until the month of release before showing off the game properly? Can't say I'd be a fan of that.

Reveals with gameplay footage 6-12 months out from release work best in my opinion, with a steady dripfeed of new info and footage over the following months to maintain interest. So yeah, Odyssey is a pretty good example of the ideal method in my book.

Yeah, 6months is fine, but 1-2 should be experimented with - we're in an age of mass digital distraction, the dilution of new footage happens at an exceedingly quicker rate. I do liek that they broke it up into "stages" with the cappy-reveal being the next stage of the reveal. Still too soon for me.
