Forums - Movies & TV - Update: Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie gets Ron Howard as new Director

Do you think Ron Howard is a good pick to finish the movie?

I trust Kathleen Kennedy's judgement, she really seems to have a better sense of what makes "Star Wars" great than just about anyone (including Lucas lol)

I hope they're able to find another quality director; I was actually rather looking forward to this young Han Solo thing.

Why do these studios keep hiring directors with vision to helm projects like this? If you want movies designed by a committee of executives, based on test audience reactions, just hire a hack who will submit in the first place.

Why bring in Gareth Edwards for Rogue One, or Josh Trank for Fantastic Four, or David Ayer for Suicide Squad and then vivisect their work into oblivion? It's really a mystery to me.

I still can't believe this movie is slated for release less than 6 months after The Last Jedi.  Disney is going to run this franchise into the ground by the end of the decade at this rate.  Force was good as a "soft reboot" of the series, albiet not without its flaws.  Rogue One was completely unnecessary, and the Han Solo solo film looks like garbage.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I like these guys, and now I'm less interested in this project since they're gone. Who knows how it'll turn out.

please move to December. We need Star Wars in December as there's usually just crap and everyone is off for the holidays so it can be a family affair.

I believe their goal is to permanently switch the series from December to May, which is Star Wars' historical release month, but in order to do that they would either have to do a 6 month gap between movies or an 18 month gap between movies. Can't really say I blame them for going with a 6 month gap between the two choices, and as a big Star Wars fan, I can personally say that an 18 month gap would have been very painful for me, so I'm glad they chose 6 months.

There's no need to move the movie releases up to May though as December is basically the new summer in many ways for the box office.  The LOTR/Hobbit trilogies were all released in December, and even the Harry Potter films alternated between November & summer release dates for most installments.  There's traditionally less competition at the box office during the winter months as well, which gives most big releases additional legs.

Guys if Star Wars doesn't eventually move to May then the 4 Avatar sequels will never come out. They can't both release in December.
