I am hoping they fix the 2d character models in Donk City. I honestly hated that technique in Halo 5. Game looks beautiful and looking forward to playing it.

What they were talking about being from Halo 5 was that the 3d models which are a distance away from the character are animated at effectively 30fps rather than 60, not the 2d model part. Unless I'm very much mistaken but that looks to be where they are talking about Halo 5

Keep in mind that Minecraft is both 720p docked and undocked so it's not odd to have a game run at that resolution in either mode depending on where the issues are happening.

If you watch the digital foundry video as well, all of the issues with framerate they said were based on asset streaming, the speed of the memory doesn't change with the clock change from docked/undocked so the streaming issue will be the same for both modes, meaning it could well be 720p in both modes since the GPU isn't the thing which is kicking up and causing the dips in the footage we're looking at here.

Keep in mind that Minecraft is 3rd party game and that even Minecraft devs said that game could easily run at higher resolution than 720p in docked mode. I dont see that Nintendo would run their game in same resolution in handheld and home console mode, when fact is that currently only their Switch game that isn't 1080p is Zelda BotW while they dont have not single 720p game.

They said it looks like frame rate issues (dips to 57 only) are based on data streaming and that in final game we could see that GPU could eventually support slightly higher resolution.

It seems like Nintendo is working first on handheld mode and later just bump resolution for docked mode. In other words, this E3 demo is probably portable mode that currently runs same on docked mode also, we already saw same thing with ARMS and Splatoon2.

Apparently, this was build from 8. May.

Yeah and the thing everyone has to remember with this, the game isn't out for another 4-5 months, if there is things like asset streaming issues that could be because the code is all over the place right now and the assets are not arranged in a method which is fully optimised for the Switch to work with, by the time the code for it all is cleaned up and everything is perfectly in place and streamlined for launch then we could undoubtedly see things getting better by launch :) it's months away.

Was obvious from the footage. Wonder if it'll get a resolution bump like ARMS and Splatwoon, and if it'll go up to 900p or 1080p if it does.

On the other hand, I'm impressed at how well the citizens blended in at half the FPS and even 2D in the distance. Maybe I'm just really blind but I never noticed that during the Treehouse gameplay.

I was disappointed I watched the video after he pointed out the fading people. I'd legitimately never noticed in all the footage I've watched, but now I always notice lol

Hopefully I keep being blind and don't start looking for it lol. The methods they're using to reduce GPU load are quite clever though, especially in handheld mode.

I believe your right. Thats what im referring to. The further characters get away from the screen they look like they have animated movements at 30frames. Which is very noticeable when you know its there and that the game runs at 60 frames. Its not going to stop me from getting it however its just annoying.

Sweet,sweet 60 fps.

P.S : To that person who said that he would prefer a game like this at 30 fps, just no. Playing a platformer at 60 fps is way more satisfaying than 30 fps.

I dont think I have ever played a platformer since the sns that input was so critical.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

I'd definitely prefer 1080p docked, but as long as the frame rate is solid, I won't even notice once I've played a few minutes.

Yeah the models have 3 different modes at the E3 demo, 60fps when right near Mario, 30 fps when they're about 30 feet away, then once they're further away again they become 2d sprites to represent where models might be (but weren't lined up right in the demo in areas) It sort of reminds me of the distant car lights on the roads in GTAV (at least on the X360 version of the game) they were literally just lights in the distance, not cars, it was a clever effect to try to give the illusion of the game being able to be more... alive than the system allowed, the same is at work here.

Not really surprised that it's at 720p. As long as they make it a solid 60fps, I will be happy in handheld mode.

its 720p when docked.

In handheld mode it will probably be like 540p.

ARMS and Splatoon 2 also ran at 720P initially when docked, but both later recieved a resolution bump (both went to 1080P @ 60 FPS; although ARMS will go down to 900P in splitscreen). Based on this track record I think Nintendo optimizes for portable mode first (where the screen is 720P and the GPU is underclocked and so that becomes the target resolution and specs respectively) and once they get that down they then focus on increasing the resolution in docked mode. As such, I imagine the demo they showed will also run at 720P while in portable mode, because that is what they are optimizing it for first.

720p60fps, that's what I thought when I saw the trailer

OK I know why this game looks and feels weird to me...

It's more akin of a Banjo and Kazooie or DK 64 than a Mario game.
