The Pro is my first PS4, but I'll agree that buying a Pro is a tough sell when you already have a PS4 at its current price.

That's the thing right.  If only it had a 4K player would've made it more enticing to buy but I'll stick with my current PS4 til then :)

I think the X is going to be an hard sell. Sony are going to cut the price of the Pro and market it as the cheapest machine to play 4k gaming. Also the S was marketed as a 4k device now they are going to be marketing another 4k device with the consumer wondering "didn't they just upgrade there console last year"? The X will sell to the hardcore console gamers but after that demand will probably diminish.

What people fail to understand that Sony could easily build a more powerful console like the X but they were a lot more smarter and focused. They wanted a 4k gaming machine that will also appeal to the casual gamer. Price was important and they hit the right spot with the price. MS have aimed for the hardcore console crowd but that is a smaller market. That said, the X is a very appealing console to me, just not the mass market.

First they need to really show the utility for the pro for those who don't have 4k tv. Even I who got a pro, sometimes a wonder why is the utility for mid gen console

Good sales have allowed Sony to not be aggressive with price after launch. They are due for some substantial price cuts.

Of course they are. I don't see pro selling as much as they would like though.

They should market the Pro as the "Greatest 4K console in the world with the best and most exclusives", imagine Phil Spencer's salt when Sony's marketing machine starts and Pro is being pushed as the 4K console, he is gonna spend most his time trying to convince people Pro is not "True 4K" lol.

The ads for the biggest games of the year, Destiny 2, CoD WW2, SWBF2 should feature a "better on PS4 Pro, the ultimate 4K console" disclaimer.

I can't wait to see it.  Sony have held back marketing for the Pro because it was selling all they could produce without needing to.  

 

But for this holiday I imagine production will be in full steam.  As you said they have the big third party deals they can show off in their pro adverts,  the greatest console as you say with the best games line up,  the cheapest 4k console on the market.  

 

They're going to hit the ball out of the park this holiday.
