3DS is still selling good and has huge instal base, regardless Switch, its very important that 3DS has low price point compared to Switch.
But it will be intresting to see sales of 3DS next year, I dont buy this "2018 and beyond support", I dont see any 3DS Nintendo support after 2018. even now suport is done buy external teams outside Nintendo in most cases.

I guess it means there's still some shovelware and a couple minor updates in the way.

Didn't PS4 only ship 2 mil in its first month, too? And Sony were surprised by it's early success. And I think Nintendo realized how weak their product library was. Honestly saying Nintendo just needed to "believe" more is easy to do in hindsight, but a little over 2 mil in the first month seems like a good safe number. I think the fact that Nintendo is having trouble catching up is the real frustration.

Pretty sure ps4 sold 1m in one day in the US alone.

Both points are true. The PS4 released first only in US, sold a million first week (which probably was one day). But second week were less than 100K, still only US, probably supply constrained. Third week was last week of November, sold nearly a million with the launch in europe (so including US sales of barely more than 100K and european sales of 700K). So, one million first day and two millions first month:

Hasn't even been 6 months and the Switch is quickly eating up the chart. Wow.

You mean, 3 months? Cause it released in March.

Actually one month, as the chart talks about financial year 2016/17.

ZhugeEX is just awesome! Always provides great and interesting numbers!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Nintendo is a rather conservative company, so I guess that's why they don't include their cards in 'other'.

"Other" is a subsection of "dedicated video game platforms."

1, Dedicated video game platform (3DS, Wii U, Switch, Other)
2. Smart devices, IP related income
3. Playing cards

Three main sections on their balance sheet, only video games are broken down into subsections.

I see. But don't they also make money from stuff like TV shows and merchandising? In which section are these included?

Apple stealing components must be a bitch. I think sony has been having the same problem with their psvr screens. You'd think in this day and age manufacturing electronic components wouldn't be problematic.

@OP
Yes and this is why the likes of capcom don't need to jump on Switch right away. There's not going to be a big install base until at least it's second holiday.

Maybe they want to create a situation similar to the one Sega had with the Megadrive/Genesis and Sega Master System in the early 90's in europe and brazil. Basically the Megadrive was the Top-of-the-line Product and the Sega Master System continued to get supported as their entry/value console. In europe this ended when the Saturn released, but they tried to recreate it by dropping the Master System and giving the Megadrive now the value status.

If they do, then the 3DS will probably get supported until the Switch gets an Hardware upgrade, whereas the baseline Switch then takes over the value/entry spot. They did already a similar thing with the 3DS, as the baseline model didn't stop getting produced after the upgraded version came out, after all. Now with the 2DSXL incoming, I think the days are counted for the base model, and we could see more games exclusively coming out for te upgaded versions (though to be fair, the latest games run like crap most of the time on the base model already - they would just not need to consider it anymore when producing the games)

Who is this Daniel Ahmed guy? I see his tweets everywhere.

A guy with access to the good stuff :P

He used to be big deal on Neogaf, then they banned him for a silly reason.

Now hes on twitter :)

He's here too: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/124103/zhugeex/ (Assuming it's really the same guy)

total: 463 000 billion yen
3DS: 248 000 billion yen
Switch: 111 000 billion yen
Wii U: 64 000 billion yen
Other: 40 000 billion yen

Rounded to nearest 1000 billion yen.

It says the year ended on March 31st, so my point stands.

Wut @_@

I wasn't arguing a point, you said it would be more meaningful to have actual figures. I assumed you said that since the OP only contained percentages and charts, which don't tell you about the actual figures, so I gave the actual figures to you.... geez
