Big metal fan. Some favourite bands (although there's many more, I'm sure)

  • Iron Maiden (the greatest).
  • Edguy (massive fan of Tobias Sammet's work).
  • Avantasia (as above).
  • Fear Factory (not a bad album, despite some weaker stuff like Transgression and The Indsutrialist).
  • Children of Bodom (first four albums are golden (particularly Follow the Reaper). In the grand scheme of things, the only poor release is Blooddrunk).
  • Type O Negative (not a single bad album. Pete Steele was one of the genre's all time greats. RIP).
  • Carnivore (as above)
  • Slayer (excellent with the exception of Diabolus in Musica and God Hates Us All).
  • Kreator (like most of their stuff although the mid '90s was quite poor. Phantom Antichrist is also very weak in my eyes).
  • Metallica (all eras, with maybe the exception of St. Anger).
  • Sepultura (like most stuff aside from '96-'01. Green material is seriously underrated).
  • Dismember (love the old school Swedish death sound. Like an Ever Flowing Stream is the best death metal album ever).
  • Morbid Angel (A-H are all good/great albums. Illud has one or two moments but poor for the most part. Happy Tucker is back as I'm a big fan).
  • Battle Beast (kick ass Finnish heavy metal with massive pop influences. What's not to love?)
  • Ozzy Osbourne (first four are the best, but I find something to value on every release).
  • Black Sabbath (like stuff from every era, but those first six Ozzy era albums are head and shoulders above the rest).
  • Kalmah (gone off the rails slightly in recent years but early output is superb).
  • Cradle of Filth (vocals are an acquired taste, but I enjoy them a lot. Incredible lyrics).
  • Sentenced (decent output early on. Once they got Ville on vocals they really kicked things up a notch. Tenkula was an incredible writer/player. RIP).
  • Swallow the Sun (beautiful and melancholic melodeath/doom).

So guys, it's a new week, so I'd greatly appreciate suggestions for an album of the week! If not, I guess I'll choose one, and then we'll see what we can do for next week.

I say a Sabbath album, seeing as it's the first album of the week (I think, OP had album of the month) and they're widely considered the godfathers of heavy metal. Sabotage is my personal favourite of theirs, but I'd say Paranoid or Master of Reality is more the sound they're remembered for.

Yeah, I originally did album of the month as I didn't know how much traction it'd get, but I decided to go weekly! I already have Paranoid in the recommended albums list, so maybe I'll go with Master of Reality! I'll work on it when I get back from work.

I would nominate chemical wedding from Bruce dickinson as album of the month. It's a really great and medolic heavy metal album which is a bit rawer than Maiden. Unfortunately it's not nearly as popular so it deserves a spot in the spotlights. The opening  and pretty much every track and the guitar work is astonishing.

Accident of birth is also a really great album and a bit more varied than the chemical wedding which is well... more metal.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

OK, so what I'll do is make Master of Reality the album for this week, and The Chemical Wedding for next week!
