Nice list you've got here. I've never though of Deep purple as heavy metal, always classified in hard rock, just checked my iPod. I wonder the same about dream theater, never saw it fit in the metal group.

Funny to see Dio(rip), Ozzy and black sabbath in the same list as alternatives. They're truly not the same thing, but due to the incestuous relationship the two singer had with sabbath, if think of them as part of the same family.

You are not showing enough love for blind guardian.... :( but you have cliff burton covered, so that is fine 👍🏻

Any ways good read and quite good list.

Yeah, I was debating whether or not to include them, but I decided to do so as many people consider Machine Head to be a classic album. As for Blind Guardian, I'll be honest, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to power metal! I added Helloween in order to have a representation for the genre, as they're one of the few bands I'm familiar with.

So, the votes of the current poll want a community decision!! Are there any albums that you guys would recommend for album of the week?

From my avatar you can guess my favorite band is Tool, and I do love progressive metal/rock a whole lot.

Here is one heck of a masterpiece in my opinion:

The whole album (Fear of a Blank Planet) is really good, but this song alone takes the cake. 17 minutes is too short :p

It'd be hard for me to make a list like this, as I usually think of it by the album instead of by the band!

Well, most of the bands I listen to are pioneers of their genre. I don't listen to newer bands because they don't do anything different from the older ones. Sure, deathcore and modern metalcore are fairly recent, but you get my point.

I tend to like heavy drums in my metal bands, anyone got any new horizons in that direction?

Speaking of Tool, here is an example of those heavy drums.
