Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's your last or next imported game? [DQXI Hype Thread]

Just preordered DQXI. God bless the current exchange rates, I say. I probably won't be able to claim my preorder bonus though on my EU account because Sony is a little bitch again.

Anyone else importing something soon or imported something recently?

Unless you are able to speak Japanese, Dragon Quest is really not a game to import. But I assume you do know some Japanese at the very least.

My most recent import was the Japanese version of Kuru Kuru Kururin for the GBA. I dont usually important text heavy Japanese games because my Japanese is starting to slip due to lack of practice and classes

I think it's good enough for DQ as I'm very familiar with the series anyway. Of course not enough to understand more than half of it but if any game motivates me to polish up my Japanese it's DQ.

It's my favorite series, so I get ya! I usually wait for the english release since the localization for DQ games tends to be really really good, imo. Actually, you might know, do they uses colloquial speak in the Japanese ver. too or is that just english?

From the bit I've seen from Japanese versions of the games, yes. I'd even say Japanese games in general use more special dialects and expressions than their localizations. I don't think the english versions would even attempt to use special speech if it wasn't present in the Japanese version.

Just think of all the special word suffixes in Japanese, like -nyaa, that are usually lost in the localization. Or they completely butcher it like they did in WoFF.

Fairly recently, it was last year. I don't do it often though. Imported a retail-copy of Resident Evil Revelations 2 on Vita, since that game's only available digitally in Europe, which I don't like. It's the Hong Kong version or something, has English text and that was the most important part.

So you think your Chinese isn't up to snuff?
