Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dragon Quest XI Direct announced for June 21

Although it's 3DS focused they might have a teaser for the Switch version.

Nintendo so weird, having Directs right before and after E3, but if they're 3DS focused it makes sense. Guess we can expect the Splatoon 2 direct in early July.

Direct is only in Japan, and e3 is a event focused on the west, and yes I'm sure there's going to be a splatoon direct.

(=^・ω・^=) Kuroneko S2 - Ore no Imouto - SteamMyAnimeList and Twitter - PSN: Gustavo_Valim - Switch FC: 6390-8693-0129 (=^・ω・^=)

I highly doubt they'd be having a Direct for it if they weren't showing off the Switch port. So this must be when it's being revealed!

I have a feeling the Switch version when it does show up at some point is going to be a mix of the 3DS and PS4 games and utilize cel-shading like DQVIII as opposed to the realized look of the PS4.

The 3DS version is slated to launch in Japan in July IIRC, so this will definitely be a hype direct to get people excited for the 3DS version. Discussing the Switch version risks undermining the 3DS version sales, and it would be in SE's best interest to not mention it at all, or to only bring it up right at the beginning or right at the end, maintaining focus on the guaranteed incoming release.

I'm still not all that certain what they'll choose to do for the Switch version, and I imagine right now they're evaluating if the concessions they'll have to make to meet both docked and portable requirements will compromise their vision of the game. Just because some of you are okay with a graphically gimped version of the PS4 game doesn't mean SE will necessarily want to pursue it if they feel the version will be too vastly inferior to the PS4 version. Remember, they have to keep a proper sales outlook in mind, and considering the Switch version is guaranteed to come after the 3DS and PS4 release, they'll have to find some way to reasonably market it after it has already sold PS4s and 3DSs.

Wow, that's really close to the release date...what else would they need to talk about at this point?

Running the actual Tweet through Google Translate, it seems the goal of the Direct is to outline all of the 3DS specific features. Gotta remember they're competing with the PS4 version and Japan loves their handhelds, so solidifying the 3DS version purchases is a smart move since there will likely be double dips for the PS4 version due to how different the versions will be. Kind of reminds me of last gen when Ni no Kuni had both a DS game and the PS3 release.

Fair enough, but I almost guarantee the 3DS version will outsell the PS4 version. I'd personally choose PS4 but most Japanese gamers are getting the 3DS version or both. Then again this is the series return to Playstation as well...and it's gorgeous. It'll be interesting to see how both games perform.

Actually accroding to COMG, amazon.jp and Rakuten pre-orders, the Ps4 version is ahead ot the 3DS version, much to everyones surprise. That would indicate that at least initially the PS4 version will outsell the 3DS one. And seeing that the switch version is coming, that might cut somewhat into the 3DS versions legs.

My guess is that they're giving the 3DS a final push.

Trust me, the 3DS version will outsell it. I'm willing to bet on that one.
