Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sign in on Minecraft Switch requires Xbox Live ID

Now we know the real reason why Sony doesnt want in. Its similar to the EA Access situation. Theres too much overlap with competing programs.

'Minecraft' users will need an Xbox Live login to play online on the Nintendo Switch.

The sandbox video game will soon be receiving an update which unifies it across Xbox, PC, and Switch platforms, meaning players are able to play online with anyone, regardless of which console they use.

Unfortunately for Switch users, however, this means they will need an account with Xbox's online system Xbox Live before they can access the game's online features."

If that's the reason Sony said no, then they'd have said yes to Rocket League.

And no, it's not like EA Access. At least there you had a logical reason to block it, albeit very shitty for their consumers. They didn't want competition to their own services. Here though.. what changes? Nothing changes.

It's free advertising for Xbox live. So that's a plus for Microsoft.

Anyway. Cross-platform play is a great thing. Don't downplay it.

Its a similar issue where Sony turned down EA access if my feelings are correct. It works to microsofts benefit where they can add more Xbox Live accounts, yes. This much is true. Theres nothing to downplay.

...and now Sony is allowing EA Access on the PS4. I guess their competing venture didnt work out the way they wanted it to. It is a similar situation.

Since when does Sony allow EA Access on PS4?

Not sure how they benefit. I don't think they can bundle these accounts together with current paid subscriptions to make live account numbers inflated if that's what you mean.

Makes it simple for those that own Xbox One and Switch like myself. Now I can play with friends while on Switch as well.

Wut?

Proud to be a Californian.

So you just need the account, right? Meaning I would only need to pay for Nintendo's $20 service

Will it count in the monthly "Xbox live game hours" stats MS love to give us instead of sales numbers?
