Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think a revised 1080p screen Switch could run Mario Kart Arcade GP VR?

Nintendo have already planned for vr with the Switch it seems. At the very least, they're toying with the idea. Here is an article from back in December 2016.

Yeah it seems like they went from "No we're not doing VR" to "ok maybe we'll do VR" to "hmm, wait and see for the future please" (which is usually Nintendo talk for "yeah it's happening, we just can't announce it now".

I think what may have happened is they've been working with Universal on VR tech for the Universal Studios Nintendo World attractions and started to realize it would be really cool for a lot of Nintendo IP.

Actually Kimishima came pretty close to just full on confirming it a couple of months ago:

Kimishima said Nintendo is “studying” the possibility of adding VR to the Switch, the company’s upcoming portable/docked hybrid console. “If we are able to resolve the issues with playing [VR] comfortably for long hours, we will support it in one form or another,” Kimishima told Nikkei.

Dollars to donughts say Nintendo's R&D will just tweak the tech and make it more "comfortable", and off we go to the races.

It'd be useless.

A revision just for VR? Why would they do that?

That's literally the PS4 Pro.

I don't see a possible future where the switch doesn't get vr, or where the switch doesn't get a more powerful revision.

Seems strange to me, considering I have a PS4 pro, and don't have  4K TV, nor a PS VR and have no interest in getting either any time soon.

When the patent documents came out many of us assumed it was the Switch mark 1 that would be the tablet that slid into the visor but the reality is either Nintendo have shelved it or maybe they planned it for a Switch revision likely with a 1080p screen.

A future Switch with a 1080p screen could offer docked performance as a portable but an enhanced performance level purely for VR titles. Something that offered ps3/360 performance level but at a rock solid 72fps 1080p resolution or in reality 2 x 960x1080p. Maybe something around 1 terraflop of gpu power and 50-60,000 mips performance. I don't think Nintendo would ever offer VR any more advanced than that, it would be pretty much entry level but still very desirable and perfect for joycons.

I'm sure Nintendo are monitoring developments from competitors to see when VR becomes accepted by consumers and becomes important to support.

Looking at Nintendo's current voice chat setup, I'm not sure I even want their Frankenstein VR setup. It'll undoubtedly feature VR trousers and a hat with wings on it.

A Switch with a 1080p screen + Tegra X2 seems likely at some point.

That would be far better equipped to deal with VR.

50/50 on whether they eventually turn out true lol.

I'll guarantee you we won't see Metroid Prime VR at release. That's just crazy thinking- it's as unrealistic as ecpecting Goku to be in Smash

I disagree.
