Forums - Microsoft Discussion - DF Justifying the X1X Price Point

It's more people expectation that was wrong. If you want a console capable of 4k, it won't be cheap. Beside, the people complaining were probably never planning on getting Xbox one X.

Most can probably agree that linearly it's great value (just as the Pro is), it's whether it offers the type of value its target market want that's up in the air. MS have dedicated the majority of their personal marketing narrative to the X1X for almost a year, so they clearly want it to appeal to more than just hardware enthusiasts looking for a premium product. The question is whether those that currently don't value graphics enough to be invested in PC gaming will look at the X1X and think "Yeah, this is worth $500 to me". If that person already owns an X1, their perceived value has to be even higher.

When I'm thinking of buying a console though, I don't base its price from its power, I base its price compared to the price of other consoles. So, I see its price, and then I see the price of other consoles, and it's just too expensive!

Compared to Ps4 Pro, the Xbox one X is great value. If your talking Xbox one S & Ps4 slim there a market that will go with the cheaper models.

Still won't make it sell more than PS4Pro

The PS4 is too expensive for me to justify too.

The box isnt aimed for the casual gamer. Its advertised as a Premium product which in that case there is a market out there that consider it a bargain. Like myself.

Which begs the question - if you, like me, game on a more powerful device than the X, why buy it? Is it because of Friends? LIVE?

Not that I'm knockin' the purcharse - I, too, am buying one. I'm just curious about need, because you already own a device that will play the exact same games.

Since you can cross play with your Xbox One friends on PC and I don't see the benefit for someone with more powerful hardware on PC.

I think what affects it perceived value is the diminishing returns in power we now have. At this price I believe more people will do research before buying, and when they get to comparing with the pro or similar pc's and they see such little difference, specially with 3rd parties still porting original x1 games, the price for what you are actually seeing is not worth it. Your can say how many flops it has but with the diminishing returns most wont buy.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

The price may be justified by the console's power, but since that aspect is largely irrelevant to my console purchases it really makes no difference. If I'm ever going to get an Xbox One, which still seems rather unlikely at this point, I'll just get the Xbox One S. The X offers nothing beyond it that I care about.

The average gaming consumers can be seen in the following heat chart:

599 - Burning Lava
499 - Lava
399 - Hot coals who are just managable
299 - Nice and warm
249 - It melts in your mouth like chocalate. Hmmm .
199 - A nice hot bath one lays in for hours
99 - I like to drop 3 of them of them in my pants just for warmish joy .

Nah, prices will drop. It's already possible to come close to an Xbox One X PC Build and it's still 5 months away. What will keep the price up is sticking to last gen Jaguar tech while factories move on to Ryzen or whatever comes next. 2019-2020 with all new architecture won't have to cost $500-$600.

At $500? You're talking closer to 700-800 just to build the tower that is around Xbox One X specs.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
