Forums - Microsoft Discussion - DF Justifying the X1X Price Point

If the Switch can cost $300, the XBOX can cost $500.

I have no problem with the actual value. I understand that the cost is generated by the tech. I just think that if I'm going to be buying a premium gaming device, it needs to consistently hit 60fps. From all the threads I've seen about 4k/30 games, it doesn't seem like its meeting that target. That makes it basically worthless to me.

At that point, while actual value is justified, perceived value is not. To me, there is no reason to buy the X1X, and thats fine but I think a lot of people are going to see it the same way. For those who don't really care to spend a few hundred extra dollars for better graphics, it will have a hard time selling. For those who want a truly premium console, it will have a difficult time selling. It targets some sort of middle ground and I just don't think there's many people in that middle ground, but I could very well be wrong.

$500 Is a good price. For what you get you can't complain. It is too expensive for mass appeal though and I think that's what people mean when they say it's too expensive.

I don't think anyone's saying that the box isn't worth $500.

A ferrari is worth it's price, still doesn't mean a lot of people will buy it,

If AMDs new tech is available by 2019 and is very expensive I see the new generation for Sony starting 2020 with a $500 maybe even $600 if they want to take a big loss or not.

NO.

It may be so but it doesn't matter for you see...

Justified value =/= perceived value.

No one is claiming that its price is not justified by the tech itself.

The issue ppl have is that they cant see the justification for the price in relation to non-tech factors, such as software support, the console in relation to other consoles on the market etc.

And those issues are perfectly justified. Its an expensive machine with few reasons to shell out for one.

The box isnt aimed for the casual gamer. Its advertised as a Premium product which in that case there is a market out there that consider it a bargain. Like myself.

As a member of that premium market, I don't have a problem with the Xbox One X being $500. The console itself is worth that money. The issue is games. I have a Gaming PC and PS4 Pro. What reason do I have to pick up an X1X? There isn't anything I can't get on my PC and/or PS4. Hell I can play against XB1 players on my PC. Having all their titles on Windows 10 and Xbox is a double-edged sword. It's the reason I don't have an Xbox One. I usually buy all consoles. Exclusive content is the determining factor for me and for a consumer like me. The Xbox One doesn't provide any exclusive content. To be honest, if they aren't going to provide exclusives for their Xbox platform, I don't see a point to MS staying in the console business.

Nah, prices will drop. It's already possible to come close to an Xbox One X PC Build and it's still 5 months away. What will keep the price up is sticking to last gen Jaguar tech while factories move on to Ryzen or whatever comes next. 2019-2020 with all new architecture won't have to cost $500-$600.

400 Gflops (0.4 Tflops) for 299$  (747$ pr Tflops) (switch)

vs

6000 Gflops (6 Tflops) for 499$  (83$ pr Tflop) (xbox one x)

vs

4200 Gflops (4.2 Tflops) for 399$ (95$ pr Tflop) (PS4pro)  (349$ => 83$ pr Tflop)

No one is argueing that you dont get your money's worth with a "Xbox One X".

Its just the price entry is abit high.

Also kinda crazy to think Nintendo charges like 9 times as much as PS4/XB1 do for performance on their system.

Many  gaming media had shown the dream that can't be realized.

And many people had easily believed that.

That's the thing.
