I just hope they don't call them 4, 5, and 6.

Well, 2 had echoes and 3 had corruption.  4 might be....revelation? resurrection?  For some reason I think it's going to be based on some kind of return dealy like Samus Returns.

No, I mean literally I don't want them to be numerical continuations of Prime. Call it something else. Metroid Bounty 1, 2, and 3 or something.

I expect they'll at minimum stick with Metroid Prime 4 simply because of the wait and hype associated with that name, but a change after that would be nice (he says as he loads up Final Fantasy 14).

That would really disappoint me. The Prime story is finished, so a continuation of that makes no narrative sense. I think people are smart enough to understand what a game is without needing a literal reference. Bioshock Infinite didn't need a 3 and neither did the Witcher. As long as the gameplay looks like it's from the same series, that's all I think should matter. I get it for this presentation, but going forward I hope the name changes. If the conflict is between Sylux and Samus now, and not Dark Samus or the Metroid Prime anymore, the name should reflect that.

It seems to me that the name Prime has more to do with the playstyle that the Primes series introduced. There seems to be split coming in the Metroid games: 2D or 2,5D and 3D Prime. Prime could then be a different story/trilogy which is best. Prime would then mean first person adventure then a specific storyline.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I completly agree, but just a note: TW3 does actually contain a 3. It's represented as 3 scratches in the shape of the roman numeral equivalent.

A second trilogy is very likely. I really doubt the whole trilogy will make it to the Switch though.
Basically it will probably be like this....
Metroid Prime 4 - Summer 2019
Metroid Prime 5 - Holiday 2021
Metroid Prime 6 (not on the Switch) - Holiday 2024

So a very similar release pattern to the original trilogy.

I second this.

Anyway, I think the series will continue after this new trilogy, maybe without being numbered tho.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

2 main main entries, a trilogy remaster / remake and two prime spinoffs.
So 5 total.

The Prime name specifically refers to the metroid prime character. It's not a reference to the playstyle and, again, people are smart enough to see the gameplay and understand the difference.

Oh wow that makes so much sense!

If MP4 doesn't sell well it'll be the only Metroid game.

The Halo story was finished with 3 too, but they decided to bring the franchise back with a second trilogy because they couldn't resist the sales/money. I assume it'll be the same with this.
