Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One X PC Build: Can you do it for $500?

PC world trys to build a PC that can compare to Xbox One X for $500 and they can not do it.

Forza 7 runs at native 4K / 60 FPS but the cheapest build they do is a $652  4k  / 30 FPS machine and I highly doubt it will do 4K / 30.

They even use one of those websites like CD Keys to buy a Windows Key!

Where is the keyboard and mouse?

Build #1: A basic 4K/30-fps gaming PC

To start, we’ll walk through a baseline build, which makes a few sacrifices but should still perform at 4K/30 fps.

Final thoughts

For the moment, Microsoft’s created a machine that the DIY PC crowd can’t currently match—not when you try to copy both feature set and the cost at the same time, at least. That might be a first, given how often PC gamers tout the benefits that console fans miss out on.

It's a monster.

I read an article that a MS spokeperson said that the equivelant PC would cost around 2000 USD

Edit, it was Mike Ybarra, and 1500 USD

Everybody already knows it is and $499 is a really good price for the console.

Well, it's still 5 months until the Xbox One X is available. Until then some PC components will go down in price, so the price of the DIY PC will come closer.

I don't think there's any doubt that what you get in the box warrants the price. But that doesn't universally make it a "good price".
It depends on what Microsoft's sales expectations are. $500 has historically never been well recieved by console gamers. It'll be very interesting to see how it sells in regards to that. If we even find out, considering MS no longer share their sales numbers.

I suspect MS anticipate something similar to Pro's 5:1 sales ratio.

Sorry but I judge a good price accourding to what I am getting for my money.

I am the one spending the coin to buy the product.

It has absolutely zero to do with what Microsoft's sales expectations are.

Do we actually know what Microsoft means by "Native 4K " in this case yet? I've seen them use it to describe everything from actual native 4K, to dynamic resolutions, to checkerboarding.

even 1500... it's a stretch... with 1500 you can build a PC with a CPU several times more powerful and a GPU almost twice as powerful... i'm not questioning the value of the xboxx because i see it as a good price (even though lots of people did try to argument the scorpio would only cost $399, MS did say that even at $499 they are not making money, crazy people)... i'm just saying that this MS PR statement is BS.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

I'm not a PC gamer. I really only play Civ, League, and Indies on my PC. But there is no comparing a $700 PC to the Xbox One X. The PC runs all the same games and then some. If you want physical games, and want exclusives get a PS4/Switch combo. Scorpio offers nothing besides better graphics, and PC already has that covered.

You seem to have left out a lot of relevant information:

"Still, it’s not a complete victory for the Xbox One X. PC gaming doesn’t require an optical drive, after all, so you can enjoy 4K gaming, 4K video content, and HDR through digital downloads. (The RX 580 will handle all that just fine.) That already drops the cost of the cheaper build we priced out.

Beyond that, these builds could change the closer we get to the Xbox One X’s launch date. When AMD’s Ryzen 3 line launches, it might offer even better CPU performance for the same price as the FX-8300. Prices might come down for RAM and Pioneer’s 4K UHD Blu-Ray drive. Availability for the RX 580 may increase again. And of course, the holiday shopping season should yield some sweet deals on at least some of these build components. By November 7th, the Xbox One X may be far easier to reproduce as a punchy $500 PC."
