Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Spencer: We Have Just Signed Exclusives That Won’t Be Ready for 2-3 Years, No Point in Showing Them

Yeah it's different. Buying an exclusive or timed is worse.

Well if it isn't funded the won't be made. Which is better funding an exclusive or not having the game at all.

How doyou know that?

More timed indie exclusives from the man who doesn't like to keep content from other platforms? Say it isn't so. And I don't know if he's been looking at sales, but now would be the time to build confidence in the future of your console.

Still talking cheap...
Asked about 1st party says he signed deal for exclusives.
Then say he won't show games that will release in 3 years, but have done that several times.
Pretends that when you focus on HW you won't on SW, when the team developing HW is quite different than the one on SW.

And there are people in this site saying that he doesn't lie or say BS. In basically a single paragraph he done it 3 times

Yeah and signing exclusives sounds like commissioning new ips from outsiders.

Well does it really matter who makes them? We are still getting games and if its a hit MS could just create a Studio like they did with Halo, and Gears.

Or buy the Studio like Sony did with Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch. The only reason they needed to create a studio in Halo's case was because Bungie was leaving them.

I'd like to see them do more with Halo. It is their biggest IP , but we only get a game every 3 years or so.

I think a core Halo shooter every 3-4 years is fine. But, what about a halo dog series? There is tons of more that could be used as the basis for such.

Maybe they could do a remake of Halo 3, or CE. Both games are monumentally important parts of gaming history. I'd live a reason to give them another $60 for those games again.

Did we read the same article?

He did answer about first party

"Our first party is a critical part of that equation. Yesterday, I know people want to see what we’re investing in new."

He's announced games early before in the 2014 E3 which was his first E3 as head of xbox and ever since then he been pretty consistent in only showing and announcing games coming soon for the last few E3s 2015-2017

He didn't pretend that you won't focus on software when focusing on hardware he said this in the article.

"Today I wanted to talk about things that if you’re going to buy the console you will be able to play,"

Clever. Now when you cancel something, no one will care because there was no hype.

Also does that mean there will be no new exclusives for 2 or 3 years?

Can't a company just for once announce a game and launch it at E3 right on stage. That would so hype.

Sony did that with PT =p and some other minor games.

Yes I did.

Their 1st party being important was said multiple times and he never showed the results of it. But when talking about it he talks about exclusive deals.

So he haven't show in the other E3 no game that would launch only 2 years after?

Yes he said, and that is a lie. It isn't like the people that develop hardware is the same as the one developing SW, and we all know that as soon as a HW launches they start to develop the next HW. And also it isn't like they don't have the resources, several people here claim that MS deep pockets would even buy them the victory this gen and that they could have bought all exclusives they wanted.

It's funny that I was thinking exactly the same thing as I read it lol :P

Microsoft really need to bulk up in the first party department, I mean sure they've got enough money to just buy third party exclusives, and it's silly that they don't do that instead of just buying timed exclusivity... but just in general, they need to figure out a system for getting more games onto their console.

Cheaper to buy timed and the bulk of the impact is in the first weeks, so a year exclusive is quite sufficient.

But sure, they could invest in buying the studio (but some have analysed that is more cost efficient to buy timed than to buy studio). Funny enough I remember users saying that MS invested so much on 1st party studios in the beggining of the gen that they would output more 1st party than Sony. But we basically saw none of it.

Thank you MS. I hate seeing games i cant play for another 2 years. Unlike your competition who shows games that havnt even started development. Good decision to announce when there close. We dont want another Scalebound.
This year is looking good with 6 1st party titles coming in 2017. Keep up the good work and ignore the internet trolls. You were voted the best E3 for a reason.

Who decided they had the best E3? Im a litle lost here.

Stop signing contracts for exclusives. Build up your own studios spencer or be dominated by your competiton. Still has yet to figure out that what makes Sony and Nintendo development so special is that they have dedicated studios that fans depend on by name on their own.

I'm really starting to think it's far too late for the Xbox brand.  I wouldn't be surprised if the the Xbox division is the running joke of the entire company.
