OK. These are friendly suggestions to improve the site for us all:

1. This is first and foremost a sales site. Most of us are here for the charts. The software sales are decently updated, however, the hardware sales are too far behind and not updated nearly as much. They are a month and a half behind. It seems like two weeks would be plenty of time to gather the data, however, I don't know the process. It may be more difficult than I know. If the hardware can at least be updated as much as the software, it would be an improvement. A month behind is as far as it should ever get, IMO. It start to become less relevant over time.

2. Contests, prizes, site based threads for art showings, threads for us to get to know staff members, etc. It would make this a more fun place. Perhaps a monthly game giveaway.

3. Less moderators, more creators, writers, and contributers. I understand the need for moderators, but I think this site goes a little far with it sometimes. More and better written reviews, interviews with game creators, voice actors, top industry leaders, etc. Video reviews would be nice. Perhaps creative fun videos for entertainment that feature games and game personalities.

4. Speaking of reviews, the reviews here are lacking. There is no score system. 1 to 10 or A-F for examples. I don't even bother to read reviews without scores. The scores help pull together the reviewers thoughts into one powerful statement. I usually look at the score and then read why they gave the graphics a 7 or the story a 9.

Well, that's it. I will be doing my E3 thread very soon. Thanks for reading!

I voted yes, as those suggestions sound great. However, they sound like things that cost money. As far as I know, this site has a budget of near-zero.

The one thing that can be done without any money - less moderation.

I wasn't aware of the site being poor. But less moderation is good. Hmm... perhaps just updating the hardware sales more often and giving review scores would be nice and cost no more money?

one small thing i would like to see is having the tabs at the top ("Hot Topics" - "Forum Index" etc) be at the bottom as well so you don't have to scroll to the top or press back-page and then refresh.

just a small thing that i appreciate on other forums

and of course i agree with your #1, the sales being almost pointless at this stage is really sad

Your suggestion sounds like an easy fix too!

Suggestion 1 is good, and it's often requested. Suggestion 2 is good in theory, but I don't think pulling it off is necessarily viable. I also don't think it would achieve much. Suggestion 3 isn't has two sides. More other types of staff-life people is a great suggestion (although I don't know if it's very realistic), less moderation sounds awful. Excellent moderation is one of the site's strongest points right now. The reviews (point 4) are fine as they are. In fact, there used to be scores, but I think it was decided that reviews would be more meaningful if they didn't assign a score.

My top suggestion to improve the site is to make sure it's not down so often. My second suggestion is to allow us to change the email address we're registered here with. It's a security issue even normally, and I think it blew up really badly last time there were password problems on the site.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinions. If moderation is this sites greatest strength, then they are failing IMO. Sales should be #1. The moderation feels oppressive and catering to those that complain over very minor things. It's like police everywhere that arrest ppl for looking at someone too long.

I just learned that the site cannot afford to do many of my suggestions. Scores are good. Metacritic helps ppl to decide not to buy crap games for example. Lastly, I do notice the site freezing and slowing down sometimes. Good suggestion.

I say we start a kickstarter to buy the site from ioi.

1. It is more difficult than you imagine. It has actually improved lately, so visitors should be grateful for that.

2. Contests are usually not a good idea, because most of them would increase spam and the like.

3. We need more moderators to get threads like this moved into the correct forum section. On another serious note, I should get promoted to mod. As for content creators, this site is on a tight budget, so most of the people who contribute do it because they want to give the site something moreso than for the money.

4. I agree that the lack of scores is a definitive negative, because reviews for pretty much anything have scores. However, I can't say that I've ever been a regular reader of this site's reviews, so they can really do what they want as far as I am concerned.

Actually, I did not mean to put this under gaming discussion. I meant to put it under site issues or general discussion. My mistake. I just learned about budget constraints after writing this. A member told me. I don't think you are moderator material because you get moderated too. Lol

That is actually a very interesting idea!
