Forums - General Discussion - Documenting my journey with therapy/medication

Pretty brave of you to make a thread out of it, so... what anxiety?

But seriously though, good on you for trying something new and I hope it works out for you

Well, I guess I'm making the thread here, because I literally have no real life friends at all to talk about it with, so I guess this site has sort of become my venting ground.

I have anxiety and mood issues as well, and since taking medication have improved massively, (mainly my general mood, anxiety itself not as much.)

Good luck.

If you cure your anxiety you will also cure yourself from communism... Be careful... It's a double edged sword!

Hmm, I don't really want to proscribe to the ignorance is bliss doctrine, though!

Ask for citalopram / celexa, first 2-3 weeks you will feel worse, and sick, and tired, and irritable, keep going anyway, a month in you'll feel like a different person.

Damn we are very much alike Poly. I also have GAD. High anxiety moderate depression. I started taking Citalopram last October it was weird at first. Tired throughout the day and weird vivid dreams at night. Eventually I got used to it and my thoughts were less racing. Recently they added valbutrin (botched spelling) specifically for my depression and it has helped tremendously.

What I also suggest is getting exercise and definitely trying to go back to therapy weekly! It's been wonderful for me.

See I'm not always a troll

This very much happened with me!! They started me off at 20 and once I got used to it they maxed me out at 40. You have to continue to take your medication daily. They take time to adjust to your system.

CBT i'll assume, never worked for me.
Is that a SSRI? Never heard of it.

This is very similar to my situation. When I was 18 (now 25) I had a depression and anxiety disorder combined. After two years of therapy I decided to use medication, because talking never helped.

I'm now on Prozac for 4 years and I'm still amazed by its effect. No side-effects and my symptoms never returned. Don't worry about getting addicted to anti-depressants (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) because they don't work like drugs. They balance the interactions between proteins that make you feel happy and this takes several months to have effect, while drugs like oxazepam directly stimulate certain receptors. So it's not like you feel better by taking more Prozac, it will make you feel worse.

One imporant thing to add, if you do decide to use medications, use them to work on yourself as they will give you the courage to do things you wouldn't before because of your anxiety. It is not my plan to stick with Prozac forever. I want to quit when I'm sure my mentality has improved.
