Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo considering more Wii U games for Switch, against straight ports, approach to IPs

Well, a good thing to think is which addition they should incorporate in each game to avoid being a strait port(please not amiibo). If the added content is enough, the game could still feel like a new one.
I'd happy with a 10 newcomers and a switch mode in smash. A port would feel like a new game.
Add DCKR stages to DKCTF. Playing the old ones with Dixie and cranky could add different possibilities.
Botw content to hyrule warriors. Playing as link(imagine the weapon possibility) urbosa, daruk, revali, minha, Sidon, Zelda, a guardian, lynel , yiga, and include a new story line, wow. Or just call it hyrule champions.
Add 2 player play to Mario maker. And slopes.
Yoshi ww, hmm, add Kirby epic yarn to the package.Add cap. Toad to 3d world, pikmin 1 and 2 to pikmin 3, add four swords adventures (sharing joycon) to tphd and wwhd, and sell as Zelda GameCube collection. Nsmb 1,2, wii/u+luigi, 4 player and nabbitt invasion for stages of the other games too.

I am not sure anymore but I can totally see Mario maker to be treated like Minecraft... and by that I mean, ported to each Nintendo console till the end of time... We had Super Mario maker, Super Mario Maker for 3ds, we should have Super Mario maker Switch edition, next handheld edition. and so on...

Switch!!!

so now Nintendo fans won't complain about remasters like they done on Sony threads?

Ports are fine, as long as this doesn't mean we'll get less new games.

Yeah, they can work fine to fill the gaps between releases

As for my wishes: Hyrule Warriors and Tokio Mirage sessions. Especially the latter, as it really needs a second chance to really shine. Both had DLC, which could be included into the final game

Nintendo should port every WIi U game to Switch at this point. For a system that sold so poorly, it's a no brainer to make the games available to a larger audience.

Yep. I'm not against ports in general, and the Wii-U-to-Switch port possibilties are probably the best that have existed since updated ports became common practice.

This is just pathetic.

I mean, why are people so obsessed with Wii U ports? There needs to be a justifiable reason to port Wii U games, and portability is not one of them.

Nintendo are already getting bashed for two Wii U ports (Zelda and MK8D) and the Switch essentially being a system "not worth owning" if you already have a Wii U. I never understood why people thought that porting games like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions would be on their radar either, because it's not profitable. Just because a system has a higher install base, doesn't mean the game will sell better. Especially carrying that stigma that it's technically an old game. They are naturally niche titles that just don't appeal to mass market, even with strong advertising. If these games want "a second chance" they should come with sequels. Xenoblade 2 is still Xeno, too.

From a business perspective, Smash and Mario Maker ONLY:

Smash:

  • Likely not getting another release until the next decade. Sakurai was injured during development and implied there wouldn't be another Smash until a long time.
  • Smash sells like hotcakes, and some people only buy Nintendo systems just to play Smash...it's defined itself as a franchise that has been on every Nintendo home console since the 64, and treehouse outcry etc.
  • Amiibo functionality with Switch and Smash Bros. has amiibo of every character.

Mario Maker:

  • When Wii U servers cut off, this game is practically unplayable
  • Huge install base and users have made over 10 million courses. They created a community that wouldn't make sense killing.
  • People have youtube careers based on this game Dashie, GrandPOOBear, CarlSagan42, RyuKahr, etc. taking off servers will make them lose a huge chunk of their fanbase, and Wii U servers dying at some point next year seems inevitable.

yup real bashing, thats why they've been in the top 10 selling games worldwide since they both debutted, people must be so displeased. And if someone is willing to pay to play a port just for the portablity on Switch (which is very likely) who are you to tell them they are wrong for wanting that? I kinda agree on your point about niche games getting remastered but screw it, they do it on the other 2 all the time and they dont get near the complaints that the Switch is getting.

Not enough of an incentive for a Wii U owner to immediately hop on board; their previously aimed demographic. The sales are to do with the fact there are no other games on the system + they are very good games, both top 3 on Metacritic on best rated games of 2017. "Top 10 selling games worldwide"...what?

I'm speaking from a business perspective, not what people personally desire. Portability is not a singular justifiable reason to port games from Nintendo's perspective.

Because the "other two" have enough games, to the point where ports are overshadowed by new games. In addition, this is Nintendo we're pertaining. The "other two" are relating to third party developers rather than Microsoft and Sony, besides Naughty Dog with the Last Of Us Remastered for instance.

There wasnt that much WIi U owners in the first place which is one of the main reasons why Switch even exists. If there are no games on the system and people dont like ports then they wouldnt be buying the Switch in the first place as its doing much better than Wii U did and its not even holidays. The ports have been the in the top ten selling games worldwide on a weekly basis since they debuted, i think you know what i meant, but just in case, theres more clarification. So from a business perspective you're still wrong cause they are selling fantastic so clearly people want them whether its for the portablitly or not. Hell the Swtich version of BotW is doing better than WIi u despite the latter having more owners.

Fair enough on the other two but you dont think the Switch will have enough new games that will overshadow the remasters?

Please don't make the "more HW automatically means more SW sold" be invalid, that is assured by multiple people that if a platform is double size all SW will sell double.
