I like the community. Even if people (myself included) clash sometimes, it still is pretty active and we have a good degree of freedom to talk. The latter is a problem I see with Neogaf, where the strict mods are effective to fight trolls, but the end result is a website where it seems like everyone thinks the same, almost a hive mind.
It's also great for checking gaming news. And I'm not saying that thinking about the news sections, I'm talking about the forums. A quick glance at the hot topics show any interesting game news and clicking on the thread allows me to not only check it but also read a bunch of opinions about the topic.
The sales data are not that much up-to-date anymore. But it still is the best source in most cases, since companies only updates us on numbers every 3 months or so (MS doesn't anymore). Ok, we have reliable NPD and Media Create/Famitsu numbers, but what about EU and ROW? VGC still is reasonably accurate in hardware numbers. Software is more hit or miss, but it still is way better than nothing (what other websites give to us). Just look at Wikipedia "highest-selling games" lists, is laughably outdated. And even for NPD/MC/Famitsu, the forums always have the most recent numbers.
It is also the best site to discuss sales. Most forums are full of people that are absolutely clueless about sales. They don't have the slight idea of how much consoles or games did sell. Gaf people are a bit better, but as they refuse to use VGC numbers they are normally always out-of-touch of how things are going outside of NA. Really, it seems like only users off this website know what the hell is happening on the market.
Well, the site needs a face-lift and a mobile versions. A modern forum. And also it should remove the ridiculously nasty ads (no problem for me, Adblock). No problem with ads as long as they are not intrusive (the fact that most websites disrespect this is why I'm Adblocking everyone).
