Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid Prime 4 won't be developed by Retro Studios and i'm okay with that.

Should Retro Studios develop another Prime game?

Yes 50 43.10%

No 66 56.90%

Total:116

I wouldn't be surprised if the "new team" was just a bunch of people from Retro and a bunch of people from Nintendo working together.

I'm not surprised they aren't making MP, I'm just surprised they didn't announce their game. They've had like more than 3 years since Tropical Freeze right?

Yeah I think their work on Tropical Freeze ended like late 2013, the game just released in February 2014 simply because Nintendo wanted to fill in a gap in releases that month. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong though.  I'm guessing it's a 2018 game considering all this time they've had and if it was 2017 then surely it would have been shown today.

One would think. I doubt they would show off a Retro game during the Tree house (it deserves E3 or a big direct). I either think they've split into two teams and have been making two games (taking longer to do so) or they are working on some monster that takes a loooong time to develop. I mean, only games like Zelda take 5 years and Retro is on like 4 years right now so the longer it takes for them to announce the higher my internal expectations are lol

It's probably NLG as they've wanted to do a mainline Metroid game, Kensuke Tanabe is producing so the game still has the same leadership as before. Retro have been wanting to move away from Metroid for a while now.

So after all these years we still don't know what Retro is working on? Are they actually working on something?

That's interesting and could mean not that Retro is working on Eternal Darkness 2!

I'm excited to see what they've been working on now that I know it's not Metroid. Could be DK, or it could be a new IP entirely.

Otherwise, this doesn't bother me one bit; I suspect Nintendo will be really eager to make sure whoever this was outsourced to gets it right.

This is good news.

I am also fine with that, but interesting we still don't know on what Retro is working.

No, Nintendo is paying them money to do nothing. :D

Several of the Retro developers that worked on the MP games left the company and formed Armature that worked on the ReCore game (that I believe kind of flopped...). So I don't mind them giving it to a new developer and with Prime in the name it will probably be directed by Nintendo to follow the older games. Makes me wonder though what type of game Retro is developing with so long in the development cycle and not a peep to what it is.

"Six years later several of the key minds behind the Prime series, including director Mark Pacini, left to found a new studio called Armature."
