Why are we back to this discussion?

3DS next Nintendo Handheld will be shown at E3 next year for holiday release!

Back to basic... a gameboy advance style console.... that connects and interacts with the Switch.

Switch Go.

Hopefully this means that Nintendo is moving ahead with just one platform and is letting the 3DS die without a successor.

you starting to get convinced this is their goal?

Might have been to differentiate from the typically offshoot pokemon games that Nintendo consoles normally get. Like, this is the RPG style pokemon that are usually on handheld...not PoGo, not Snap, not Colisseum, etc.

Although I'm hoping it means MMO

This so much. Does Nintendo even realise how much money they are sitting on here?.

They would have to spend on a bigger budget than even an HD Pokémon core RPG game would cost. Plus take more than two years or so. You have to consider not only all the known and unknown Pokémon regions but also the 800+ Pokémon and whatever gets added in the future. That plus all the battle, trade, and catch systems they would have to modify to fit an MMO along with interactivity with players, including their core group, mainly children. That's a huge risk that Game Freak has never tackled before, let alone an HD game. I think we should hold back those expectations if they are hoping to release within a year or two.

Please, keep the battle as it is.
And keep the top view camera, I don't see a point in free camera in a game like this.

Why is it that you have such a hard time believing that just because I can argue Nintendo might be doing something the definitely shouldn't means that I firmly believe that they are doing something. I have never thought that they definitely are or are likely going to release a non-Switch 3DS successor, it's just far more of a legitimate possibility than many people on this site are willing to allow themselves to believe. And truth be told, it still is a legitimate possibility.

It would be foolish if that wasn't their goal. I've said this (in varying ways) many times before.
