I mean that they don't plan on releasing a non-switch handheld.
Added in probably just to assure people that the Switch is still getting Pokemon since they announced Ultra S/M for 3DS

Actually holds huge importance. It is like a huge sign to developers that this is the prime platform for Nintendo now, and they're pulling all the stops. This WILL sell lots of units, so better start jumping in on the platform.

No. Nintendo has only ever pitched Switch as home console and successor of WiiU.
Everyone has assumed it will also replace 3DS but I think Nintendo left that purposefully open in case Switch didn't do well.

Might have been to differentiate from the typically offshoot pokemon games that Nintendo consoles normally get. Like, this is the RPG style pokemon that are usually on handheld...not PoGo, not Snap, not Colisseum, etc.
Although I'm hoping it means MMO
