Rich people should not have to give away their wealth that they have worked hard to earn over their lifetimes. Anyone can become rich if they work hard enough. Work harder and you can become rich if you work hard enough.

Well, for some, "solving the problem" is not simply "helping the downtrodden" but specifically "tearing down, root and branch, the evil capitalist economic system".  Incidentally, this is what DarkLord2008 sees whenever he looks at Democrats.

Start donating money to the government and then I'll think they actually care. Otherwise this is just a PR, feel good stunt that gives them tax benefits, imo.

These same billionaires are the ones that will come tax talk, talk about how people need to pay more taxes and hell even warren buffet said he wishes he paid more taxes. Guess being a billionaire doesn't make him smart enough to know he can pay more taxes if he wants. That is an option. It lets you.

But of course they never pay a dime more for taxes. Yet they constantly donate to charities that decrease their taxes. Why do they try to pay as little as possible for taxes when at the same time they are telling everyone else that we should pay more taxes cause of all the good things the government does with the money.

I don't see how it's either conflicting or not true.
If you take away more than you give back, you are not solving the problem, it's better than not doing it, but it's not solving anything.
I'm not blaming them for it as well, even if it ends up being an actual charity act and not a scheme, they still have no obligation on doing it.

Well, what has me confused is why you say they are "not solving the problem in the slightest" when you imply that they would be solving the problem if they gave away all of their money instead of some of it.  Logically, if they gave away half of their money, wouldn't they be halfway to solving it?  So when you said "not in the slightest" I figured you must mean that the money they were giving away wasn't even going in the direction of solving the problem, which is VGPolyglot's complaint.
