I think Capcom is this gen's Konami. They're going to run all their major franchises down into the toilet sales wise and by the end of of generation are going to be in serious trouble.
Monster Hunter has been on hugely successful consoles before so it's not like this is something different ... it was on PS2, it was on Wii. The bottom line is the vast majority of its sales are on portable systems. Vast majority. The Japanese like to play this on the go with local multi, it being a home only franchise cuts the balls off the whole thing.
The sales of the Japanese version are basically going to be capped at 1 million tops now instead of 3-4 million the portable games have gotten.
They will probably try desperately to revive it on Switch, but I think the damage will be done by then and it'll never be the franchise it was before. Just like they've probably killed Street Fighter already this gen. Resident Evil has also massively under performed. Well, you're next Monster Hunter.
