Forums - Sony Discussion - Monster Hunter World announced for PS4/Xbox One/PC

I think Capcom is this gen's Konami. They're going to run all their major franchises down into the toilet sales wise and by the end of of generation are going to be in serious trouble.

Monster Hunter has been on hugely successful consoles before so it's not like this is something different ... it was on PS2, it was on Wii. The bottom line is the vast majority of its sales are on portable systems. Vast majority. The Japanese like to play this on the go with local multi, it being a home only franchise cuts the balls off the whole thing.

The sales of the Japanese version are basically going to be capped at 1 million tops now instead of 3-4 million the portable games have gotten.

They will probably try desperately to revive it on Switch, but I think the damage will be done by then and it'll never be the franchise it was before. Just like they've probably killed Street Fighter already this gen. Resident Evil has also massively under performed. Well, you're next Monster Hunter.

Persona 5 is available for my PS3.

How good is it compared to the PS4 version? Haven't heard much of it.

As far as I heard it's the same game, just resolution is 720p. But can't guarantee, internet info.

i guess it was ok for MH to be Nintendo exclusive for 6 or 7 years, but a game on three platforms that doesn't include Nintendo is a problem. And this is all at a time when Nintendo are still getting an MH exclusive on the new console

get over it honestly

You don't get it. It's not about not being on a Nintendo platform. It's about Capcom's own interest. MH sells MUCH better on handheld devices, and as such, a Switch version, especially after seeing how much of a wanted device it is.

Back when MH3 jumped ship to Wii and 3DS, there were sound reasons to do so. Market share. Money. Basically it is what has kept Capcom afloat for the past years. When they see sales struggle to reach 1m in Japan, they'll come back begging to Nintendo (maybe that's the reason they named it MHW instead of MH5, so they could backtrack if things go bad - also the reason Ninty claims Switch is a console; should it fail, they could just introduce a 3DS successor and say JUST KIDDING).

i don't think sales will struggle to hit 1m in Japan, and as they have said, this game is an attempt to get bigger in the west, and for that, you need PS4 more than you need the other two combined. As for Capcom's interest, I don't believe most people care, and if they struggle in the future it won't be because of Monster Hunter World not being on Switch.

So all these Nintendo fans care so much about capcom?  Is that why lots of them are hoping this bombs just because Switch didnt get it?

I'm a Ninty fan and don't care about Capcom - as long as they give me my MonHun-fix. Getting another platform just for one game is a difficult option. Overall I don't care at which other platforms the MonHun-games release, as long as it includes one I own. I never cared for 3DS-exclusivity, I would've had never a problem with the game on Vita. As long as it is also released on 3DS. Now the same: it can be on Xbox, PS4 and PC, it doesn't matter. But why not Switch.

And it is somewhat unfair, that some of the Sony-fans that give a flying crap about MonHun in the first place are gloating that this title skips Switch. Are these people so afraid the Switch will threaten Playstation that they don't grant Switch-gamers the opportunity to play the game? I get if some people are happy the game reaches their platform, and I'm happy for them. But why the gloating?

Yeah we are all terrified that switch will destroy Switch.  You know the ps4, the console that's still beating the ps2 aligned.

I'd say the gloating is a result of the gloating Nintendo fans did last gen when Playstation couldn't get a MH.  but I see a lot more celebrating then gloating tbh.

This gen Playstation has been in beast mode with Japanese games support.  This is another jewel added to the Crown.

The ps4 will probably be $199 this BF.  no excuse for lovers of Japanese games not to buy one now.  The line up is unparalleled.

Man, some people are made that the Switch isn't getting that incredible 3rd party support they were saying it was going to get. Who's really shocked? I guess they'll just have to get a PS4 along side their Switch.

Most (in their senses) never talked about incredible 3rd party support. Nevertheless, it was almost a given that MH would be on the Switch, you know, THE premier device in Japan?

And I can play it in 4K on my PC, thank you. No need to buy a PS4 just for MH.

PS: Maybe for Persona 5 :(

Don't see how a fan of JP games can skip PS4, but hey, I guess keep it off as long as you can.

Even though the console market has declined, that doesn't mean that everything just wholesale stops on consoles. Switch doesn't have the userbase yet to guarantee a version of every mainstream game.

I thought MH5 was the generations. Isn't MHW the 6th generation?

MH: 1
MH2: 2
MHT: 3
MH4: 4
MHX: 5
MHW: 6

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

It's the lasting bitter taste in our mouths from when Capcom ditched PlayStation for Nintendo without even bothering to localize the last PSP title. No one's afraid of Switch beating PlayStation, because they're in different weight classes. Switch has no bearing on the PS4/XB1 market, so why would a rational fan care? It's just like last gen: They're not competing.

As far as the gloating is concerned, I remember a fair bit of gloating the last time MH switched brands. I can't speak for VGC since I wasn't here, but on other message boards it was fairly prominent. I suppose it's a case of "What goes around, comes around"?

Man, some of you guys couldn't have been more incorrect.

Fuck, I was wrong, too. Never thought this game would hit 10m.
