Two million on PS4 sounds about right. I expect this game to be more successful than MHTri was for the Wii, mostly because it has been casualized for the lowest common denominator gamer. The game will probably sell about 1.25 Million in Japan, and .75 million elsewhere on PS4. 

I can see it being moderately successful on PC though, to be honest. Modding might make it something fun and unique (albeit not a Monster Hunter game.) 400k on PC/XBO each (probably less) doesn't sound too off.

1.25 million on the PS4 in Japan would be incredible considering this isn't a mainline game. I don't see that happening. The only game that has crossed a million on the PS4 in Japan is FFXV, and that was barely. DQXI will also do it, but a mainline DQ is bigger than an MH spinoff.

You're probably right, the Japanese are quite sensitive when it comes to their Monster Hunter titles, and brand doesn't sell it alone. Just look at how poorly XX was received and how it affected sales.

Also, I have to say that I'm getting frustrated with the claims that this is a "spin off". This is clearly where the series is heading, as nothing so far has indicated a massive departure from how the game plays as a whole. This is no more a spin off than X, XX, or Frontier. The only thing different from what I can see is new gameplay mechanics and a better multiplayer infrastructure.

Where did I say I wanted them to "roll out an encylcopedia of Monsters"? I said the monsters don't have charm. I am talking about the quality of the monsters they have shown. I was correcting your comment about how there was only one monster shown. 

It is very obviously a spin-off. Nothing that makes the monster hunter games successful is in this. Monster Hunter is about efficient farming via local multipayer. It isn't a single-player game, and it isn't meant to be an open-world action RPG. This won't fly with the Japanese audience, and they are who dictate what the future of Monster Hunter is. 

This is like saying Pokemon Colloseum was the future of Pokemon because it looked like this when mainline Pokemon games looked like the latter. 

Oh, okay. You just don't know anything about Monster Hunter. Cool.

 

What makes Monster Hunter good is the gameplay, armor combinations, and atmosphere. All of which are present in this trailer. And by the way:

DQXI is a multiplatform game. MH World isn't.

True, but I still don't think MHW will cross a million on the PS4 in Japan. I'd be very surprised.

Yeah I don't know anything about a series I put 1500 + hrs into. Right! 

Somehow a game with QTE, regenerating health, no zones, minimal local multiplayer mode, and casualized combat is Monster Hunter though. But it is I who doesn't know what Monster Hunter is about? 

Most of the 300+ hrs one spends in a Monster Hunter game is efficiently killing monsters for their materials again and again until you can upgrade equipment, and kill new monsters. That is  monster hunter. 

The atmosphere isn't present in the trailer at all. The monsters look like generic UE4 action figures, and have no charm at all. 

Pokemon Sun/Moon (2) are true Pokemon games much more similar to saphire and ruby than they are to Colloseum. If anything, you posting that picture just tells us how it is only about the graphics for you.

This is quite the saga surrounding the game, not clear whether the game was actually MH5 and Capcom changed their mind or the source mistook it as MH5 tbh.
