I only played AoE II and the conqueror's expansion. How does the original AoE compare to AoE II?

Conquerers expanded on Age of Empires in every way. New units, civilizations, maps, campaign... I started playing it before the conquerers came out on Zone.com. Actually managed to get into the top 100 back in the day on the trusty old 33.6kbps dial up modem I had.

Between this... StarCraft Remastered, Homeworld Remastered, Age of Empires 2 Remastered... Feels like I am reliving my teenage years. Haha

Now if only we had sequels to those old games, like Age of Empires 4, Warcraft 4, Homeworld III

Technically we did get a sequel to Homeworld 2 with Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. :P
And WarCraft ended up having World of WarCraft.

Wish Microsoft kept Ensemble around.

This is a serious question, Last time I played AOE was number 3 and it just felt stale and the same thing as the previous games.

Has it evolved enough since 3 for me to care to try it again?

Has it evolved since 3? Nah, more like devolved

They've gone back to #2 and now #1 and upped the graphics on them, added some new content for 2 (expect they'll do the same for #1 now), but that's it. They aren't just like the previous games, they are the previous games

Crap I was hoping this was liek some new one on steroids (not so much gfx) but game play lol.

Oh well I may still buy it, has been a good 10 years since I last played it lol.
