Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft Lack of Exclusives

it's the same every year. just before E3 people hype MS up and say this is the year they unleash a load of megatons, and every year they barely have anything to offer, and some of the most interesting stuff gets cancelled.

it will be the same next year too. I wonder where those people still optimistic get their hopes from. It's not like you can make a first party AAA studio in secret anymore, so where are new MS games meant to come from?

Can someone explain what 'Xbox One Console Launch Exclusive' means?

It means that when the game launches on Xbox One it'll be the only console it's currently available on.

A.K.A a Timed Exclusive.

In other words 'please forget this is launching on PC as well.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

It means they think the common man is stupid.

What exactly is so terrible about timed exclusives?

Xbox, as in the console xbox does not really have exclusives in the traditional sense of the word. Instead you have W10/Xbox exclusives, and I applaud them for that, though I'm no sure how smart it is to not have your game on Steam if you're gonna launch it on PC anyway.

However even talking about Xbox/W10 exclusives, there were surprisingly few of them (at E3). I kept thinking they were gonna announce a AAA Xbox/W10 exlcusive sometime in the show, and then suddenly the show was over and they hadn't (except Forza, but it's a yearly title, it doesn't have quite the same impact). They did show some games that looked interesting, but they were almost all multiplat or timed console exclusive (so already on PC, and will come to the PS4 later). In the end, it was a good conference for gamers, but it wasn't a very good conference for Microsoft.

It's funny how Microsoft takes shots on Sony for advertising checker board 4k as dynamic.

Specially when they call their XBox preview games Exclusives. Yes we heard this word 22 times in their conference. But how true is that?

For those unaware, Microsoft allow developers to sell their games earlier in their platforms before the game is actually finished (for full price most of the time) once gone gold, the game is then published on other platforms, including Switch and PS4 for example.

Microsoft promised 22 exclusives and 1 brand new IP

Instead this is what we got:

Forza 7 (New announcement)

Stay of Decay 2 (Already announced)

Cup Head (Already announced)

Crackdown 3 (Already announced)

Sea of Thieves (Already announced)

Ori 2 (New Announcement)

6 exclusives. Only 2 of them are new and the rest were announced 2-3 years ago.

Everything else is either multiplat or will be released in other consoles after launch.

A full E3 conference and Only 2 announcements?

Where is the new first party IP Phil Spencer promised?

Did I miss something?

Its actually worse than that.

why?

Well Ori 2 was leaked like a month before hand.

Everyone was expecting there to be a new Forza 7 motorsports there.

There was not one exclusive surprise at MS's Xbox E3.

It was a lack luster E3.

I don't intend to offend MS fans, but I think this gen Sony is completely obliterating MS, just because of the quantity and quality of PS4's exclusives. I get that people who are big fans of GoW, Halo or Forza will always going to buy a MS console. But I think generally speaking, Sony takes the lead by miles. I find the difference quite astonishing.

I thought Black desert was exclusive aswell. Or is it just one of those "released first"?

Anyways, we all know MS let itself slip away with first party software management. They need to stop beeing bad at that. Lionhead's closing is inexcusable when you should've gotten them working on Fable 4, the only RPG franchise you had and needed to diversify your portfolio.

The 22 games don't include game preview games. Personally they showed enough console exclusives that launch before their next E3.

Im curious. What do you believe "Launch exclusive" means?

The game will be on Xbox One before anything else

You actually think all those timed indies will come out before E3?

Willing to bet most of the timed exclusives will. And all the 5 console exclusives they showed forza, Crackdown 3, Luckys Tale, SoT, State of Decay, Ori will be out by next E3.
