Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Need for Speed: Payback producer a big fan of Switch, but no current plans for the system

This is going to be a very common story going forward. It's just the way of things. One console won't fix 20 years of bad relations between Nintendo and third parties. Plus I imagine the Switch is a chore to port to with the docked/handheld functionality requirements. Developers can be confident significant downgrades won't be necessary for the docked version, but the handheld version opens a new can of worms.

For this game? I actually think even docked it would have to suffer massive downgrades to run on the switch.

And yes porting this game would be a chore, simply be way of Frostbite supposedly (permalite says so) not being supported by the switch.

Also this game is probably more than 32 GB, so it cant be a digital game (since its bigger than the disk space a switch comes with).

Too bad they don't developing NFS for Switch currently.

And history repeats, again.

It's a shame, but this is something that should surprise no one. Switch has launched halfway PS4/X1 lifecycle, with a weaker hardware and requires to run on two different power settings.

Even with its good/excellent sales, not all third parties will bother to port their games and engines to Switch.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Their loss.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

At least he admits it could run on the system.

it wouldnt be able to run it and look anything like this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-5EdHZ0hBs

Well NFS Rivals looks pretty similar during the racing scenes and that runs on 360 and PS3.

I think NFS Payback has vastly more complext Geometry & lighting, much better textures.

Not to mention the upgs to things like physics, and all these other effects ingame.

While they might look simular to you, one is probably alot more demanding to run than the other.

Also I think theres a noticeable differnce between the two, in terms of image quality.

Is pretty big to me atleast.

We see this a lot with the Switch.

''Yeah I love it it's so much better than any console ever made I make love to mine every night... but nah not working on it currently :)''

Details. The difference is not that big. Barozi has a point. NfS Rivals still looks very acceptable to me. Having said that, I probably won't buy NfS on Switch anyway.

Side note: After watching the Payback gameplay video I can't tell anymore where Need for Speed ends and Burnout begins.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to get used to this, at least for the rest of E3's third party announcements. The only dependable publisher is Square Enix at this point for any Switch games. Ubisoft will eventually come, (well they said if Pokemon was on the system they would hope on board), Activision ports their crap on anything

No, don't expect Bethesda, Rockstar, EA, CD Projekt Red, or ID software etc.

Not sure about Capcom.

Anyway, fingers crossed tightly that it will ameliorate next year. But right now you're buying a Switch in the satisfaction of Nintendo games/indies/Japanese third party support

Even the Wii sold impressively higher than the PS3/Xbox 360 yet it still did not receive the majority of AAA third party games. It appears to be an unrepairable burden at this point that Nintendo will never receive at least half of the major multiplats. Ah well, at least I have a PC. I hope I can stream games to my Switch though, really want to play on that portable screen :|

Bethesda is coming already. And Capcom too.

Western mainstream third party games will not come, but that's why people buy their Xbox and PS for, anyway. Imagine a world where every game except for Sony's and MS's first party games came to a Nintendo console. Who would need the rest anymore?

Those games aren't even expected on the Switch in the first place.
