Wow, Nintendo should copy their method, much safer for the screen than the dock station.

Wrong, its quite the opposite. Only an idiot would scratch the screen as long as the dock is not defective or something.

You could always put a cloth on the dock to avoid serious scratching. Plus the protection plastic. This looks like it could fall to the ground if it's moved the wrong way.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I would prefer something like the Wii U cradle or my Vita docking station: handheld "standing" in 70 - 80 degree, but open to the front.

50$ still seems high especially seeing that no power adapter is included. It only undercuts the official version by 10$ and that is guaranteed not to be broken by firmware updates etc.

Also I'm not a fan of having the Switch lying down like that. It either covers air intake or you have to have it lying screen down. Plus it doesn't look as tidy...

They easily could have included a similar spring mounted docking mechanism in a smaller formfactor like a lot of the 3rd party dock shells that have been popping up are doing. It's basically the Switch dock in a WiiU gamepad dock formfactor.

But it undercuts the official price by 40$... the Dock is actually priced at 90$, not 60$.

A dock with out usb c and HDMI cable cost $60. A dock with All those cables costs $90.

So there are 2 versions out there? Color me surprised. Are they actually asking 30 extra bucks for an GDMI and USB C cable? That seems insane.

The dock concept is 100% hardware. There is no software included inside the contraption, so firmware updates can't break it.

You can also plug just about any USB-C charging device into it and get power. It doesn't have to be the official Nintendo Switch branded one.

Well... if they made one that was actually a dock the Switch slotted into it would be nice.

Yup, and seeing that this also comes without the cables, it's only a 10$ diffrence. ;)

looks tidy for Travel use, would consider buying a dock like this as a spare for trips.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

that's a pretty decent and I hope it gets some revision but as it is right now.  That might not be safe for the switch.  Lying it down like that while in docked mode blocks the intake vents at the back of the unit.
