The better system is...

Nintendo 64 606 48.71%

Playstation 1 638 51.29%

Total:1,244

The PS1 also had a much better controller especially once the first dual shock showed up.

ps1, but n64 is awesome and i prefer to play n64 now. the 1st party games have held up better than most of the ps1 games. At the time PS1 was a RPG juggernaut and I played it to death.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

PS1 by farrr!!!!!!

N64, as that was the only console I owned that gen. I was just never pulled in to the PS1, and I honestly felt the PS1 had weird visuals that made games look weird, like everything moved in such a fuzzy way.

In a jittery way, yeah. I admit though I find that aspect of the PS1 endearing. There was a sort of humility to it, the developers were doing what they could with what the hardware could give them.

That and the PS1 had the best console startup ever.

Still, I gotta give it to the N64 since I played more of that and it had the GotG: SM64.

Wut. Are you people actually serious or just trolling? Perfect Dark obliterates everything on the Playstation 1 as far as visuals are concerned. And it's not even the best looking game the console has to offer.

**************

Decision for me is easy. Nintendo 64. (I also own one... So there is that.)
Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, Lylat Wars, Turok, Smash, Mario Kart, Banjo Kazooi, Banjo Tooie, Mario 64, Conker, Ocarina of Time, Diddy Kong Racing, F-Zero X, Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium, Majora's Mask... And even "Mediocre" games such as Gauntlet Legends, StarCraft 64, Command and Conquer drew me in. And I had a few laughs with South Park 64 and it's Moo 2000 launcher.

Being a PC gamer back then... A large chunk of PS1 games like Final Fantasy ended up on PC anyway.

Good pick of a game. I really loved that one back in the day : D

You could play it today on the Wii VC and it still holds up :P

I have both.

Watch me stream games and hunt trophies on my Twitch channel!

Had both. Adored both. PS1 wins simply due to size of library. But n64 is no slouch either. Both are fantastic machines with amazing libraries. Couldn't ask for a better childhood with those two.

N64 by a landslide. I owned both and the 64 took up 90% of the my time. Aside from RE, FF7 and MGS, the 64 murdered my PS1 with quality over Qauntity. Rare alone on the 64 was beating anything PS1 delivered.
If your buying your console for quality games than 64. If you wanted a CD player to play music than PS1.

I had both but I picked N64 due to Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, 0oT, Banjo kazooie etc. PS1 was great too though MGS, GT, RE, MoH etc.

Also people saying PSX had better graphics? What cmon now that's a blatant lie, better sound yes and better cgi but actually polygons no chance N64 obliterated it. Just compare MoH to PD. Or shadow man 64 vs shadow man PSX.

N64 without question, best system ever and home to a host of my absolute favorite games. PS1 is still firmly in my personal top 3 though, great system. Combined with PC games released in that period and the GameBoy Color, the 5th generation was the Golden Age of gaming.
