64 wins for Ocarina alone

PS1 had better third party support, my favorite games from that Gen are on PS1.

Playstation overall, but arguably Nintendo had 3/4 "must play" games of that generation

(Mario 64, Zelda: OoT, GoldenEye, Final Fantasy VII).

If Nintendo had compromised that gen on the CD issue, they win that generation easily. Too stubborn, too stupid, N64 had everything it needed to win and win big that gen, Nintendo just threw it away for no good reason. Unlike other failed/dissapointing consoles, people actively wanted the N64.

If they compromise on CD-ROM and secure Squaresoft's continued support, which should have been easy since Squaresoft was super close to Nintendo at that time -- they run away with their third straight console generation win, no question in my mind.

Glad to see the polls are split down the middle between the 2. They were both awesome. Loved them for different reasons. Not surprised it's pretty much a tie.

Ps1 with ease for me......N64 had some amazing games but other than those few and there were only line 7-10 of them there was nothing else for me personally. While on the PS1 I had the same number of amazing games PLUS more and then some great games along with all major 3rd party support. So for me the PS1 wins in quantity and quality....

Is Metal Gear Solid not considered to be it?

Psx had better graphics? Really?

32bit vs 64bit

I'd say that would be no.5 on that list.

Nintendo was soooooooooooo fucking stupid that generation, they had the generation *won*, they basically snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by not compromising on the stupid fucking CD issue and instead wasting time on the crap 64DD. Even if the N64 could only play CD games via add-on (ditch the dumb 64DD and give 3rd parties a CD drive to work with), they win that generation.

N64 for me.

Like many have said PS1 had more games but N64 had gems that still are playable today (Mario 64, both Zeldas, Banjo Kazooie, GoldenEye007, Perfect dark, waverace64, Pilotwings etc.), unlike most PS1 games IMO (except Metal gear solid, gran turismo and maybe Tenchu and Castlevania).

But I was more of a Nintendo fan and didn't play that much the PS1. But for instance I really loved (and finished) Tomb Raider on PS1 back then but I can't play it anymore because controls are really bad.

Who said that? Obviously N64 has better graphics.
