That's actually not as much as I was thinking it would have... It's only 1 more gb than what the x1 currently has. Luckly the memory bandwidth has a good increase.

9GB usable for games on Scorpio, not 9GB total. XBO only has 5gb for games.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

XB1 only has 5GB usable by developers, the other 3 GB is reserved for the OS/UI. This has 9 GB usable by developers, an increase of 4 GB over XB1/PS4, and an increase of 3.5 GB over PS4 Pro.

No, you are comparing total RAM (Xbox One) versus available RAM for games (Scorpio)

3.5 more than the PRO. Impressive.

Seeing how the PS4 Pro manages to achieve pretty good results with checkerboarding with quite a bit less horsepower, I am curious to see how much of a leap Scorpio will be over it when it comes to 4K imagery. This amount of RAM will sure help deliver a crisper image.

My 4K HDR TV is ready for it. Here's hoping MS will deliver the goods this next sunday.

The biggest thing is checkerboarding = horrible thing for developers, many developers said it and thats why they don't do it in most cases. Sure first party sony games will look good checkerboarded but it still takes a few weeks to do.

Native 4k = Click done. Because the PC version will have the native 4k anyway as long as a console will handle it it should be there.

So for third party support on higher resolutions this extra memory will be a must-have in combination with the extra memory bandwith and horsepower, for higher resolution the CPU actually isn't a big deal. When you checkerboard however you are natively running the game at a lower resolution and the lower the resolution the more CPU dependend the game becomes.

Either way its an impressive amount they managed to free up and its a big deal because if developers cannot get to the higher resolutions the resources will go to waste, something that third parties are already showing with some lackluster ps4 pro supported titles.

1- First time I ever hear about this. Source?

2- What are you on about?

google "lower resolution cpu intensive" im sure you will find thousands of hits, any tech site will tell you this in any of their tests for cpu and gpu components its commen knowledge, no offense.

Destiny 2 is also a good excample since its been in the news lately, higher resolutions on 30fps not a big deal because nativly it runs at 30fps but 60fps on 1080p is impossible, the gpu wouldn't need to do much extra work to render the extra frames but the cpu cannot sent the instructions to render the frames fast enough.

Sending instructions to handle higher resolution frames isn't as intensive as sending ADDITIONAL instructions.

Altough the GPU displays the graphics the CPU tells the GPU what to do.
