Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does Switch really needs Pokemon this year!?

First, how is this an overreaction and second DS was a handheld and everyone was 100% confident it would get a traditional pokemon game at some point.

Lastly, it had the GBA doing monster numbers. DS didn't need because there was another hardware selling pretty well while Switch only has the 3DS numbers that are slowing.

Add in there that DS wasn't selling as hot until 2006 with the DS Lite model.

This. Are people sure Nintendo have enough games to sustain a good level of sales until 2019?

They can't keep up with the demand because of the surprise success. If it wasn't the case and the console was selling less, would the have been in need of a Pokemon game? It is not like this should be decided in a short frame of time. Whether Switch would get a port of UM US was a decision that Nintendo or GF took since last year.

And well, it is pretty interesting to see people asking for less games.

i don't think that's the arguement. I think most are saying for this holiday, if we presume Pokémon would be a holiday Switch title, would be overkill. If people think ARMS would be affected by Splatoon 2 the month after its release, it's possible that Pokémon could also do the same with Mario Odyssey, even if it's an evergreen title. Plus, you have to consider that shortages of the Switch continuing due to the shortages of manufacturing digital parts and having to fight Apple for assembly lines, according to WSJ. So they may not be able to take advantage of getting sales boost with both Mario and Pokémon releasing in the holidays on the same console.

Having a port of UM and US on Switch wouldn't have killed Oddyseyy. In fact, having to big games would have helped each other to sell even better.

Sure, why not? 2018 could have Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Kirby, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Party, 2D Mario/Mario Maker, whatever Retro Studio's is developing, etc.

These games along with a price cut and/or revision could give Switch another strong year in 2018 without Pokemon.

Many of those have come on past Nintendo consoles and not always worked.

Having Pokemon early is not going to hurt but guarantee better sales. Not having early is a toss in the air.

After the Wii U and being a conservative company, I know I want to be sure my console sells well early than wait to release big guns after the hype deflats.

It doesnt work like that. People that will be buying Switch in holiday season won't be buying Switch just because of Mario Odyssey, but because Mario Odyssey and Zelda BotW, MK8D, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Fire Emblem Warriors, Monster Hunter...and some other games.

Sure there is an accumulative effect with game releases, but most of the sales occur in the week or two right after the release of specific games. Most people are quite impulsive like that

And past consoles have had Zelda & Mario Kart but it didnt always work so whats your point?

Im not saying Pokemon wont cause better sales, im just saying its possible that Switch can still have a good year in 2018 without Pokemon.

Switch doesn"t need Pokemon.

Switch isn't advertized as an handheld.

Sun/Moon broke record on 3DS.

There were all the signs there but people refused to believe me. Pokemon on the 3DS was the only logical financial choice to make for Nintendo.

Eurogamer rumers were just made up.

Well in that case we would need system seller game evre week or two. :)

We specifically talking about holiday season, and at holiday season Switch will have plenty of great games available while Mario Odyssey will that great new one.

Splatoon

No reason to believe Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart Deluxe & Splatoon 2 won't be significant system sellers along with Mario Odyssey since it will be the first holiday for all of them.

Eurogamer don't make up rumours, they were right about everything about Switch hardware. Most likely is that Pokemon is in development for Switch but this year we are getting just Pokemon for 3DS.
